View Full Version : 2 way switch on 1 proportional channel

About 15 years ago, I found a circuit diagram out of an R/C boat magazine for a 2 way switch that runs off 1 proportional channel. I have 2 made, but (of course) misplaced the article. It uses a Monostable multivibrator (MC74HC4538A) and 2 Dual D Flip-Flops to drive a pair of relays.
Anybody know of any plans posted on the net? It would be pretty simple to decompose the bread-boarded circuit and re-create it, but getting the real thing would be great.
I know the current fasion seams to be PICs, but for somebody that doesn't want to go that route, are there any other plans (non-PIC) out there that can do this?
I've used decomposed servos to do this, but I would like a purpose built package instead. Seams like packaging in a boat is simpler and more elegant.
(1st post BTW :) )

Not sure if it's the one you are looking for but try the URL below
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/rc-sw.htm
uses a 4013 to handle the decoding of the PPM signal.
More can be found at http://www.discovercircuits.com/R/rad-control.htm
Hope this helps
Oh and welcome to the forum !

You don't even need a monostable - or at least you can make the equivalent out of CMOS gates and a diode, a capacitor and a resistor....
The flip flops presumably latch the state you are looking for...

Oh and welcome to the forum !I found that already (thanks though!), it looks like its only a 1-way, not 2-way though. I haven't pulled the specs on the chip, but it is two way?

Looked at it again and it looks like using two, one trimed for the high side pulse and one for the low side pulse might work. Also looks, in principle, to be the same as what the old plans are. Parts are cheap so I might just bread board up both and see what happens.

That said thanks for the link, I'll add that to my bookmarks as an alternative to the current PIC based RC switch :)

Oh and welcome to the forum !I pulled out a Robbe switch from another boat and they are using the same chip as this design. Hmmm, interesting. They do manage to make it two switches in one as well.
