View Full Version : Will Reflex XTR work on my Twister's 4-channel Tx ?

I just got the Heli but I know I need simulator flight hours before I take it out of the box.
My question is obvious will the Trasmitter work with Reflex XTR? After a lot of reading it seems that reflex is the best sim for heli's (Is there a twister V2 FP model for this sim? or Honey bee mark II FP which seems to be the same Heli?)
The Tx has a trainer socket (see attached photo)
Thanx in advance.

Details on the connections to various type of sockets can be found on the Reflex web site. There is an image showing you how to wire up the end of the cable to a 4 pin mini-din plug, however given the recent "discussion" over copyright rules I can't post the image on this forum with out fear of the threat of court action :)
Howver more to the point, is that you need to confirm that this transmitter sends a standard PPM signal out of the transmitter port, as some of these Piccolo cloans used their own protocol. That said I'm sure your TX should be OK.
Best advice would be to contact Reflex to see if they make these leads ready made, and to contact the retailer or distributor for the Twister (Perkings in the UK) for confirmation on the protocol used.

Malc Thanx for your advice. Will do that and I will post my findings.

Getting back to the topic (enough copyright wars--there's another thread for that!).
Yes, the picture on Reflex site is correct, but only for this transmitter. Walkera has different wiring of the same mini-DIN plug. But Walkera won't work with Reflex interface any way, that's why they haven't discussed this wildly popular (albeit rather crappy) transmitter.
What I'm trying to say is that if your TX has a mini-DIN plug, this doesn't necessarily mean that the connector should be wired as shown on Reflex site and that it'll work with their interface!

Boris - right you are. The Walkera units IIRC seem to support multiple protocols depending on when they were made and for whom they were made. There are several threads in the archives (which by the way are searchable FOREVER via Altavist/Google etc. even if they get deleted here).
Based on that alone, to the OP I would suggest a cheapo buddy box. You know, the one one thing I have not tried is running XTR through its donlge to a G2/3 dongle. I wonder if it would pass through.... hmmmm...

@Bluesky:
I don't thinks that's the walkura Zhen Hua digital protocol - looks more like an e-Sky clone. To my knowledge, the FP twister uses the analog protocol whereas the CP version is ZH only.
I CAN BE wrong of course, I havn't seen all of that stuff. Is there someting in the twister manual about the signal? Did you get a serial cable for FMS with the kit?

To the OP - try http://www.modelengines.com.au/index2.php These guys appear to have the same chopper/radio combo and might be able to help.

Yes, Twister helies are the same as E-Sky. Because this is a fixed pitch model, it has non-mixed PPM signl and can be used with good general purpose interface cables. To my knowledge, E-Sky/Twister transmitters have never implemented Zhen Hua protocol--only Zhen Hual transmitters long ago and 4-ch Walkera lately support this protocol.
Regarding E-Sky/Twister and Century 4-channel transmitter similarities. I have an E-Sky transmitter and I borrowed Century from a neighbor--they look like identical trasmitters except Century has an LCD voltage indicator and my older E-Sky has a line of colored LED-s. I've tested Century with my E-Sky interface from milehighwings.com and Century worked fine, that's how I know that Centrury 4-ch transmitters use the same connector wiring as E-Sky/Twister.

Some of the conversation has been split to here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450343).

Unfortunately there is nothing on the manual and there was no serial cable on the kit.
I am preparing an e-mail to jperkins who created the heli so I will be waiting for their answer. And I will notify you..

Just found this on an australian site:
"Transmitter with buddy box training switch and charging socket with adjustable height sticks and silky smooth operation"
... and as it seems to be an eSky clone, I would give it a 98% go with the eSky cable. Where do you live? Maby there is a shop close by where you can give it a test.
