BigHairRC, don't know of any RC clubs in state, buy there is a modeling club based in Bath. My understanding is that they welcome all comers and have several RC members. Hope to go to a meeting this winta now that the lakes are gettin hard. Personally, my passion is RC, won't even join my wife on her HOG.

I race model lobster boats in downeast maine. They are electric and go along pretty good. We build ours from scratch during the wither. We've raced them a couple years now. We arent nessiceraly a club but we get together to race 3 to 4 time during the summer.

When ever there are two boats in the same body of water, regardless of type, they are racing! ;)
Are your lobster boats 'scale', B&G? sounds like fun to me! :)
BG-boats06
Dec 31, 2005, 07:54 PM
Yah they are fun. Ours are built on a 1/8 scale. Some people have kits from Blue Jacket, Dumas and others. They range from less then 30" to 60". I have pictures of them in my gallery.

BG boats what is your power system in your boat ?
BG-boats06
Dec 31, 2005, 09:15 PM
They move at about 15 mph i have know clue how to figure scale speed. They are powered by dual mack's with three 7.2v nicads and a astro esc full forward and reverse.

With that large of a keel, I bet that they don't walk much around the turns.
BG-boats06
Dec 31, 2005, 11:28 PM
The Flash can turn on a dime. It turns like and outboard where as the othershave a harder time.

But the question is, are those of us in Maine have a club? or do we need to form one?
wingnut163
Jan 05, 2006, 11:50 AM
club: is a piece of paper that says, we are one.
not like a marriage license: we are one.
both say the same but, does it mean the same.
you don't need a club to have FUN and thats what its all about.

A club in Bath? No kidding? Do you kow how to get in touch with them? Hey check out our website www.rcboatblvd.com We just added a link to the World's Fastest RC Boat Electric. You can view the video from there.
Would anybody be interested in joining our New Club we are forming? It's specifically geared toward Boats and ANYONE with a boat can join. Membership is free right now until we get it going along. Basically we just want to run our boats with others and have a good time. Not sure if we would be racing the Crockett or Tug (ha ha) But we do have an Offshore Electric we wouldn't mind running. Haven't finished her yet, but she could be ready in no time.
Thanks!!!!

About a year ago, I had received an invitation to a wooden boat show in Maine.
One of the attractions was a r/c club operating at the show. I am in Penna.
I was curious about the club and had called the office of Wooden Boat Magazine. They gave me the following info:
Penobscot Bay Model Yacht Club Don Seales - 1-207-342-5666
& U.S. Vintage Model Yacht Group
Mr. Don Seales 351 Muzzy Ridge Road Searsmont, Maine 04973
NOTE: Very close to him is a good supplier of supplies for model boats
Blue Jacket Ship Crafters www.bluejacketinc.com 1-800-448-5567
160 East Main Street Searsport, Maine 04974
Ship fittings, Birch plywood, basswood strips, deckingm stripwood and sheetwood - bass & mahogany
If you need me further E-Mail me at R.R.Farina@att.net

Wow thanks Ray. Searsport is not too far away. I will have to email them. But we were thinking about starting one here in this area (lewiston/auburn/lisbon). Not that we won't travel or we're not interested but hopefully we can get something going in this area. We need a hobby shop around here too. As it is we are traveling to West Falmouth to get glue for cryin' out loud!
We will check out bluejacket also. Check out our site and sign our guest book. Maybe we can put something together (a gathering) for the first thaw. As it seems now, the weather is being cooperative and it looks like an early spring. But then again, we live in Maine, and that could change at any time.
It's been great talking to you guys!!

I had received an invitation to a antique and classic boat show in Maine, and one of the attractions was r/c model boats. I had further found out more about the club.

And U.S. Vintage Model Yacht Group

In your response you said that Searsport was not too far from you.
In Bluejacket catalog they say:
IN PERSON: We welcome you to visit us in our showroom at Lightplace Place, 160 East Main Street (Rte.1) Searsport, Me. 04974. (Searsport is located in Mid-Coast Maine between BoothBay Harbor and Bar Harbor) - please call for directions and our hours.
They do carry CA glue for fast assembly, but I used Ambroid glue (In the later 50's) and the boats are still holding together perfectly. This glue has to be pinned or held in place with closepins. But it is waterproof, flexible, and slower drying. (6 - 8 Hours)
Are you people doing kits or scratch building. You can get free boat plans with offsets (full size) at freeboatplans.org , these are plans from the old books "Boat Builders Handbook" put out by Science and Mechanics. I have a scale that will reduce full size offsets to 1/6. (1 foot = 2 inches.) If you need this scale reduction, come back to me at R.R.Farina@att.net It is important that you put these plans on postboard first. (This is called lofting) If I can further assist you, please come back to me.

Just want to take a moment here to remember Chester Clark of Rockland. He was a good friend as I was growing up in Maine although he was an old man then. He build some of the finest replica sailing ships that every were. I don't remember all the ships he built but I can remember that there were many and I'll bet that there are some beutiful ships still in musieums that were built by Chester Clark. When I was a kid I used to watch him work on some of those ships and I can tell you he was a crafstman. Last time I saw him I was in the Navy home on leave late fifties era , and he taught me the difference between a reef knot and a square knot. He was a fine man and a good friend that KNEW his sailing business and he spent his last few years building some really beutiful ships. So this post is in rememberence of Chet. RIP, Jim

Hey Brian & Gordon
I just checked yahoo maps and it seems we are about 4.5 hours from you guys but it just so happens we like road trips. We would eventually like to set something up for this area. If you would like to get something going, let us know and we'll be glad to help. I got the flyers and will post them on the site. Thanks a lot for those. Hope all is well.

Since you are not too far from Searsport, Maine (Home of Blue Jacket Ship Crafters) I would suggest that you and a couple of your friends visit ship Crafters,. I just received their new catalog and it is very nice, and you can also visit this place in PERSON.
