Winds from the South in the afternoon 11-15 mph.

Who's going?

Andy and Gary, I'll have my weasel there for you to pick on me.

It's the USC bashing of UCLA. You've got to be kidding me that you'd rather go sloping than watch that :D

Dave has his priorities right. I understand the addiction. Hey, I'm an Auburn grad, and I was happily flying my glider during the 1st half of the Auburn/Alabama game. (Andy cringes)

Dave,

I'm cycling the battery to my sloper now. Have to drop by RC Hobbies sometime, and hope they have a crystal on the right channel. Getting out on Saturday is dicey. Need to confirm the schedule with the rest of the family.

I'll Tivo your game, burn it to CD and give it to you. That way you won't miss any of the action.

Jon,
It will be good to have you there. Have you heard anything from Larry Owen. He's been real quite. Last week he did indicate an interest to getting a 15 min LSF flight in the books.

Dave, I've got your stryker fuse in my car. I picked it up today while at the big sale at Rick's. If my schedule lines up, I might be able to bring it to you when I come to the slope tomorrow. **wish, wish, cross fingers** :D

Hey guys I have my Slinger Sloper charged and ready. It looks like the wind is going to be out of the south into the bowl at 10 mph should be fun. Dave let me know what time everyone is getting together.

larryO,
i'd say the time to meet is 1-2pm. That gives the rain time to clear out & the winds will pickup. yes the bowl is where the lift willl be. Should be fun.

RC Hobbies didn't have any crystals for the Airtronics receiver in the Python. I dug up one of my PCM JR receivers (can you say overkill), and the plane seems ready. Need to head to a soccer field in the morning for some throw tests. I did a few small throws in the yard. See you tomorrow.

Waahoo.
I'm sort of planning for 1-2 pm ish. Depends on the weather of course, and an earlier meeting maybe required. The weather man is singing a different chorus.

What say you?

I'm afraid I will have to pass on this trip. This dern head cold/sinus trouble or whatever it is that I've had since the day before Thanksgiving is still hitting me hard. I probably shouldn't be out there in the weather today.

Sorry guys... :o

I didn't take any photos today but Jon and his sons did, so maybe we'll see some of the action. Not that I'm anxious, because I spent a lot of time walking up and down the slope. I'm sure there several pictures of me at the bottom. One picture will be posing with Jon and his cut-in-two sloper. Yes I cut him in half. It was an accident. (honest) Anyway, we weren't even flying together. Next thing I knew, I'm seeing my JW wing and Jon's EPS airplane impact, and an instant later, Jon's poor bird is in two pieces. Both of them fall to the shelf below. The JW too. That was my first of many trips below. No I didn't take any pictures, cuz I didn't have time. I was doing to much hiking. Meanwhile, LarryO is having a great time. He's flying his Sling wing core on the west side of the bowl, where there's plenty of lift.

Congratulations to LarryO, he got his 15 minute slope flight which satisfies a part of the LSF Level 1 requirements.

Before Jon and I connected there's another exciting mid-air. Exciting because Larry is about half way through his 15 minute timed flight, and Jon and Larry have a mid-air. That one was indeed exciting because Larry was on a mission of 15 minutes. In they end they both recovered and continued their flights. I'm seeing a pattern here, Jon has two mid-airs in short order. I'm thinking he needs to build his Overlord.

Once I even landed in a tree branch that was poised out over the shelf. One false move and it would have fallen another tier. Larry did eventually spot the lift, and I was able fly with him and avoid the hiking.

Oh yeah, tomorrow there is a north wind, but not very strong. Still, its so tempting.

Dave found a new part of the bowl with little or no lift. I named it the "Dave Zone", after he went down there a few times. Pictures later on.

Photos of a great time. My only regret was my boys did not get to fly. I wanted them to fly my sloper, but it only lasted 5 minutes. The python went down in a blaze of glory. :D

Rob,
That's a cool sloper. I'd love to have it, but only if I sloped on a more forgiving hill. Landings are very rough here in huntsville. The forward fins would be torn up in no time. The shape of that wing reminds me of my JW60. If I just extended the fuse and added an extra horizontal stabilizer, I would be there. Maybe thats a future mod. Thanks for the post.

Rob,

I've already talked to Richard at Gunderson Design about modifiying the canard sloper to take a motor with a folding prop. He promised I'd be first on his list of customers :) It's a great looking plane!
