ghee-grose, I like your avatar. My wife got a kick out of it, too.

UPS has already brought 3 boxes this week to the house. One more supposed to show up tonight. Last night they showed up at 8:30. I'd say mail-order season is in full-swing.

oh, all of the packages were for gifts. No flying stuff. :)

Thanks! It was originally a moving .gif file but when I reduced it to fit as an avatar (75x75) it quit moving. He used to walk. :D

Gary,

Where did you get the Pico Tiger Moth and Pico Stick models? I haven't seen those and would like to have 'em. I like riding in the cockpit of the Easy Star - but the jets are more fun.

I get all my models from www.rcsim.de

They call it a Slow Stick, but it has the wing with the gap in the middle like a pico. Both of them fly wonderfully.

morning ya'll
fixed up the slowstick this morning, replaced the rx with a jr 700 out of my deceaced twist and cycled the batts. had a pleasant morning of flying. :)
come in to warm up and went back out for 2 more batt. of flying, the wind was up and also had a close encounter with a redtail hawk  aparently one of them didn't like the red of the SS flying in the territory. had to do some quick nose diving to avoid it :D .overall had a successful flite.

Who says you can't 3D with G2. Although it is more difficult than G3 or AFP, Im sure....This is a plane I downloaded for free from Real Fight web site. A few shots of me praticing this morning. I have the Typhoon under the tree and it is killing me. I just got my simulator back from loaning it to a friend, I did not realize how addicted I was until I didn't have it here at night when all is quite. There is tons of reviews on the Typhoon in the rc groups (even has its own tread with over 55 pages) and I think I am really going to enjoy it.

Mike, nice screen shots there with the Real Flight! I get addicted every now and then to taking a ton of screen shots and recording my flights. You must have that plane dialed in right for 3D. I just wonder if you ever had much luck with a stock plane that came with the software.... without fiddling with it.... can you 3D very good?

Randy, nice looking lights on the Revo! I see you got the SS out and started flying again... watch out, you're gonna get hooked again! :D

Thanks, ghee..... No I have not had any luck with stock planes. These were modified before I downloaded them, so I really did not have to do anything. I would say I am that I am less than average on 3D. I really have just started praticing with the planes, and have mostly just do hover and knife edges, no rolls or other moves. I did get on aerofly at Ricks this weekend and it really depends on the plane but they seem very similar. I did notice that G2 seem to need forward speed for the airons to work wher Aerofly you could youse prop wash. Much better planes and more to choose from in Aerofly, but I can't get 2 simulators at that price, so I'm stuck with G2. Should get me enough stick time to try in real life. Still getting my nerve back up to 3D my Shogun. I'm getting close. (wish me luck)

To late, hope to get some air time in the morning,or thurs. morn.
i'm thinking of building a Gym Swallow(to cold for the REVO) as a little fun project.does anyone here have the plans for the gym swallow that i make copy's of or buy a copy. i've seen Mr.Grose fly Debbie around the sportplex.
look like a good first plane to build.

The Gym Swallow plans are a free download and can be found here:

http://www.tdmsoftware.com/majewski/rcstuff/swallow.html

You can either print it out as tiled pages or take the file to Kinko's and get a full size print.

Both Frank and I have built them. He made some mods to the wing. I've built an aileron wing and my new v-tail version is awaiting calm weather for a maiden flight. It is an easy build. I had never worked with balsa before (except for model rocket fins) and mine came out OK. They are sweet flying planes and I know you'll enjoy the build and the flying.

Fyrwalker,

Can I help to convince you to come over to the slow flying wing side of things? The WingThing is a little faster than the GymSwallow but is fairly easy to build and fly, and I've provided you with a full build-thread...

Rob, I think you and Dad should colaborate and put together a build thread for the Gym Swallow. I know there are several out there and they're HUGE, but it would be cool for one of our own to put one in our forum.

....just a thought :D

Ok, I apologize in advance. Here is another neat looking plane to tinker with...

http://www.dansdeals.net/

Specs:

Wing Span 27 ¼ inches
Total wing area is 222 sq inches
Total foam weight 1.7 oz/ 49 grams

With servos and IPS motor and GWS receiver 136.grams (no battery)

Indoors use a IPS motor. Outdoors you may want more power use a BP21 brushless motor, or an IPS brushless.

Total flying weight is about 15 oz. with a BP 21 and a 1250 Ma LiPo battery.

Please read these notes before starting:

You may use up to a BP12 or 21 Outrunner Motor but be sure to balance the plane before flying. Use a 7.4 1250 ma Li-Po Battery (I get 20-30 minutes flying time) This will give you unlimited vertical flight...

If you need some plans for the WingThing, let me know. I can probably print out another copy for you. Read through my thread and you'll get a good idea of the plane, even with all my mods. I'm planning it around a GWS LPS-A RXC motor system with either a 7" or 8" prop as all this stuff is cheap and readily available. I say that, but it's taken two weeks to get my motor in at Rick's

Nah, you need to build something that looks like an airplane, not just part of an airplane ;)

Gary,

Nice idea. I'm not sure I have enough build photos to do a job as good as Todd is doing on the Wingthing. I'll look back through my photo folders and see. Maybe Frank has some.

Fyrwalker, Try downloading the .pdf plans, and print them out tiled, then tape them together. BTW, Scotch "Removeable" tape (blue packaging (Office Max)) is great for such applications. Just be sure that your settings on the print menu is set for no margins, or your plans will be scaled down a little. I took the extra time to make a rib template to make cutting and shaping a little easier. Those little ribs are a chore to hold onto while working with them. I made a lot of mods to my GymSwallow, a flexible motor mount, wing shims for increased angle of incidence, beefed up LE and TE, extended wing, and covered bottom of the wing are but a few. I recommend them. The covered bottom surface gives mine a very shallow 10-degree glide angle. It is too draggy to glide well with only the top surface covered. Stop by sometime and take a look at mine. It wins the blue ribbon hands-down for maximizing the "grins per dollar" and "grins per hour" factors. It is very durable as well. Mine has been flying since May 2004. It is definately my go-to plane when I want some relaxing and rewarding flying. Slow is GOOD!

Rob, I don't have construction pictures (but with Reynolds Wrap covering, who needs construction pictures when you can look right through it). I do have several detailed pictures of mods that I have made. They would be appropriate for posting. In fact, I think I wrote up a .doc paper on the mods. I'll have to look for it, and see if it is complete.

Our forum just hit 2000 posts!!!! Merry Christmas!

I looked briefly at some other club forums and see that most are pretty inactive, especially compared to ours. Of course we may calm down a little over time. But we clearly have a lot of enthusiasm and forum participation here.

Here's a good one for you guys...

Next time your wife says you're obsessed with RC airplanes, show her this and say "How can you seriously say I'm obsessed??? Look at this guy!"

Everybody post back to this thread with your wife's response ;)

And does she even know yet how many planes you really have bought lately??? Sounds like you and Dad are keeping some planes a secret! :D

Andy,
That guy has some really great planes; many I have either flown or built. I figured my wife would think that was outrageous, she did not think much of it. But then she is always giving me a hard time about the time I went to Singapore to perform a UAV flight demonstration and came back to the United States with a Seduction kit (actually carried the kit onto the 747 after Sept 11th) .

Merry Christmas, Ken

The resultant number is always a multiple of 9 and less than 90. Notice that "magic" symbol is duplicated at every multiple of 9.
