I'm thinking that this group needs an aerial photography thead. I have a camera, (plane ready) that I will loan to anyone with good flying skills and a plane that is capable of hauling it aloft.

All thats needed besides the two previous items is a spare channel in your Rx/Tx to trigger the camera. A mounting system for the camera too. Which doesn't have to be more then a duct tape.

One other item, if you crash and break the camera, then you should replace it. It only costs $120 total. The details of the camera are at http://blip.com.au/

I'm going to post some pictures I took last week to get this started, but they are at home. I'll post them tonight.

Anyone interested in borrowing the camera, contact me by PM to discuss the logistics.

I have flown it over my house and over the houses of friends too. I have a wall full of pictures from those flights.

I just tried out my setup today at the NG site about 3:30. I just used velcro to attach the camera. I still have to make a mount for it. These pictures are boring but they will get better once i get the hang of it. I`m gonna bring it with me in the morning. I am using a Aiptek SD 1.3mp with a RCcam XP board.

Here are some pictures I took of my house about two weeks ago. I just missed the peak of the fall colors. I'm looking forward to my next photo outing as I've got a higher voltage battery to power my SloStick. On this day, I was scratching to stay above tree top height. Who knows, maybe a brushless motor is in my future.

Dave, nice pics. I noticed some odd artifacts in several of the pics. Kinda like you smudged the image or something. Any idea what that could be?

Dude, that smudge is me! Seriously, I don't see a smudge, but I can say that this camera has a pretty slow shutter speed. So it does tend to blur. With the motor running it will always blur. These photos were taken with the motor turned off.

OK, I will re-post link from my gallery.
Dave, I need to stick this camera on the wing and get you and Ken in formation.
Slope action might be fun too.
Use it for our rock video production.
What do you think.
Anyway take a look if you haven't seen it before.

Outstanding video. Thats the best ever air-to-air video I've seen to date. AT one point you right the slingers 6 while the slinger is doing fast rolls. Good stuff. Thanks for the repost.

The slope video action sounds great. Need to devise a mount for the camera.

Those are nice pics. I would like to try it on my heli but I do not know what channel I would use to clik the pic.

Those are nice pics. I would like to try it on my heli but I do not know what channel I would use to clik the pic.

Buy a Y servo lead and gang it on a channel that you already use. Hook the camera to one lead of the Y and the servo to the other lead. The picture will take when you push that servo to max travel. The servo will continue to work normally.

I should make note, that my camera has a very slow shutter speed. So sensitive, that I have to shut off the electric motor before taking the picture. Otherwise the vibration of the prop will cause a poor picture.

So, for a helicopter, I have doubts that this camera will work due to vibration.

Dave, I noticed you have a pool in your back yard. Have you ever put floats on a plane and used it for a runway? :D

Sorry that's not my yard and no I've never done the float fly thing. My yard has the trampoline and popup camper.

Oh ok. Did you peel out that big skid mark in front of your house?

I would say those skid marks come from my daughters friends. I don't own a car capable of laying rubber.

Checkout the three point shooting goal I made for my daughter in the backyard. Its situated on the backyard on the slope. Not sure if you can tell that the street has a 15% slope, but it does. The fence of the shooting goal corrals the ball back to your feet. Allison is becoming a pretty good shooter.

I took many of the photos that were posted in our forum, plus I clipped some of Andy's maiden video. Then I added some soothing music to the mix.

Next time I do some rock in roll.

I wish I had two JWs. Mine's getting a bit beat up. I'm going to have to do a recovering soon. Thats just a bit of movie magic you were seeing.

Todd Ken and myself met at Discovery Drive this morning and boy was it cold. I bundled up in my slope flying coats and overalls, so I was ok, but the hands were still cold. Each of us flew our favorite electrics. The wind was stronger then I wanted, and thus we were blown around a bit, but we all survived. At the end of the day, I got out my camera and Todd agreed to pilot the blip camera aloft on his Frankie. Here are the pics.

Here are my first aerial photo attempts taken at the Moquin Drive site about a year ago. They were shot with one of those disposable 35mm cameras strapped to my Slow Stick with a servo used to push the button on the camera. You have to land after each photo to manually advance the film.

Don't know if its any count, but I saw a small digital keychain camera at K-mart (in Clevland Tenn,) It was pretty low res. and I would say the dims were about 2 x 3 x 3/4 inches. It was on sale for $18. I have not checked here locally to see if they carry them.

Rob,

I don't recall for sure but it may have been a Kodak FunSaver 35. Whatever, it was a disposable 35mm camera. My Slow Stick was the platform. I think I had the GWS 300 motor in it at the time.

A few months later I flew a friend's video transmitter using the GWS 400 and 3 cell Lipo. I'll edit and post some of that video eventually.

Space Ship One - White Knight Project

In the model airplane/model rocket world I came across an excellent piece of work done by an Arizonian. He modeled the Space Ship One - White Knight project as a tribute to them. The Space Ship One is the Estes kit and the White Knight is a Slow Stick twin modification.
The build thread is on RCGroups here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359421&page=4&pp=15

A very nice video of it is here. He has used clips of full scale Space Ship One and the model video and stills. Nicely done.

What a great project!

I've dropped balsa gliders from my SS, I've flown a wireless video system on my SS, and I have an Estes Space Ship One waiting to be built. I'm not sure I could pull it off but it looks like great fun.

Todd and Johnnie, would a rig like that be allowed at Southern Thunder or is it against NAR rules? I'm sure it would be a big hit.

Nice pix goliath.

I recognize the intersection of Martin and S. Parkway. The other is looking NE across Jones Valley but can't figure out where you were flying from.

That Slo V did a good job camera lifting. I had read they were a little underpowered. Have you replaced the motor with something bigger?

Nice job.

Rob, my guess is that both pictures were taken flying from the field on the south side of the Whitesburg Baptist complex (just north of Byrd Spring Rd).

Dave is right I am flying from the field over Whitesburg Baptist complex. I replaces the Motor with a Himaxx 2812-0850 11x4.7prop. 2200 mah Lipo. 20-25 minute flight time. 1000-3000 AGL limit. Video downlink and spotter on the ground squinting at the airplane.

Check out this video by Gary Morris. Note the gear doors and flaps coming down and the chirp as the tires meet the asphalt upon landing.

Slope soaring at Percy Priest Dam in Nashville, Tennessee. This video was shot during one of the days when the wind blows from the northwest. Shot with a CVS OTU camera with the lens mounted on an extension. Wow, that was some fine pitch soldering.
