View Full Version : Who's in for a lunch meeting?

I think it would be neat to get together once a month or so and have lunch or dinner together as a group. I'm sure there would be plenty of great conversation and it would give the newer guys a chance to get to know us better.
Some of us did a lunch at Tim's Cajun Kitchen one Saturday after meeting at UAH to watch Dave, Jon, and the other NASF guys do their thing. I thought that was a very enjoyable lunch.
What do you guys think of doing something like this? I know schedules are different at the lunch hour... so would dinner be better?
....your input? :o

Yeah, a supper meeting would be good. We wouldn't be as limited on time in the evenings.

With all the Adtran guys and most of us very close by, it sounds like lunch at one of the Adtran cafeteria's might be the easiest. They've got some good food too!
We could probably do the lunch more often than once a month and who makes it can join us. Then we can have a dinner and see which has the best turn out.
*don't get me wrong... I'm gonna eat lunch SOMEWHERE... might as well be with you guys every once in a while* :D

You need to find us a nice slope, or at least a beautiful field to fly in over there in the Florence area. That will give us an excuse to go to Famous Dave's for lunch. :D

Red Beans w/ Rice or Lemon Pepper Chicken is on the menu. They have other stuff cooked to order that's pretty decent.
Guess we need to decide which cafeteria, East or North/South. My vote is for the cafeteria in the twin towers (North/South towers). :)

For those that are unfamiliar with the Adtran campus, here's a visual aid ;)
The green arrows indicate where Visitor Parking is located. The red arrow points to where the cafeteria is. If you park in the north visitor parking, the door is overly obvious, so just walk toward the SW corner of the lot and you'll see the door. Either entrance will put you on opposite ends of a long hallway with the cafeteria smack in the middle. There are usually several tables pushed together in the middle that we can grab.
Looking forward to meeting you guys tomorrow.

I think Tuesdays are usually the best day for it. We meet at the North/South tower cafeteria. This is the buildings on the West side of the lake (not the tallest tower). There are a few of the Renegades that work in one of those buildings and I think one or so that work in the East Tower (the tallest one across the lake). 11:00 seems to be the best time to meet.
We've had only one meeting so far, and it had pretty good turnout.

This meeting would be a good place to discuss the DBPS flyin on Wednesday at Electronics Blvd. Winds speeds are going to be reduced on Wednesday, so where ever you may be, Wednesday you should get outside for some stick time.

To threads that I start, the only option available is to "close" it, which is an admin tool. I can't edit the thread title.
I think you have an expanded tool set because you are the moderator.

Johnnie, when you get to the end of Bradford, bear right onto Explorer. Hop over to the left lane and take the first left onto Discovery. Come to the third Adtran entrance on the left. Turn in there. There is visitor parking up by the building, but you might have to park out in the main lot if there isn't room.

Okay, I'm going to try to join you guys for lunch. I've got the directions to the cafeteria, is there a general gathering place at 11:00? I would probably recognize Dave and probably Todd, but since I've only seen them at the quarry when it was cold and they were dressed for the weather, my guess is that they will look a lot different in "regular" clothes.
It just occurred to me that I didn't have my beard back when I flew with Dave/Todd/Larry, so I won't be the same either. :) Just so you will know, if you see a bearded - mostly grey - guy with glasses in a brown henley shirt and brown trousers looking lost and confused, it'll be Jim Howell.
See you then, and looking forward to getting a face to go with a name,

I can come this Thursday 11:15 if that's the date and time. I assume ADTRAN. Some of us prefer the other cafeteria, but which ever one is selected, I can and will come to.
Here's a possibility:
If someone brings up the subject of a lunch or dinner or whatever, our Great Moderator could set the Title to "Who's in for a lunch (dinner, whatever) meeting?"
Then when a date and time is agreed to, set the title to "Who's coming to lunch Date Time Place?" :D
That way people would be alerted to the general possibility, and would then notified that a specific date/time/place was selected, without reading all the intermediate posts.
ghee-grose
Jul 25, 2006, 08:02 PM
The old way seemed easier to me, and it would take care of wondering when/where just by reading the title, but it seems half of us are thinking differently.
