Bladers started several threads like this. He is probably just a kid, but need to learn to use google before asking for such complex things.
Bladers,
Prior to asking for help on electronics development, I suggest you to read the http://www.howstuffworks.com
There is a lot of information and links there, and the author has an excelent approach to explain complex things, so you will learn easily how electronic parts work, and then follow the links to more complex info.

I'm honestly beginning to doubt that bladers is a little kid, in that post in the off topic area he posted a link to a website, that it looks like he made. If he can make a website, I doubt he would be asking us how to make "batman technology" so he can fight the bad guys.

bladers since you have no background of how a computer actually works, just higher level languages. I would highly recommend you check out that www.howstuffworks.com website and to be able to count from 1-1000 in binary, hex, and octil. Also forget about PIC I would try programing in ABEL first. ABEL is a low level form of programming that will teach you the basics of how microprocessors work along with the basics of boolean logic. Also you can download the program and a compiler for Xilinx chips for free as well. Just be prepared to edit some system files because when you install it, it will probably knock out your USB ports. You cant start making calculaters and clocks until you know the principles of how processors work.
Also on a note of a 13 year old being able to design a website, it actually isnt really a big deal. Kids(including me) grow up with this kind of stuff now. I knew kids that were making websites with java when they were 12. Many software companies out there make websites and networking suprisingly easy now. And since VB .NET things have gotten even easier. I bet 99% of the people on this board could read a book and start making there own websites in a couple weeks.
Also bladers, in order to be successful in anything in this world, you have to learn how to spell and speak correctly.

why don't you prove how serious you are, and give the method you will use for determining, lets say, square roots on this calculator.
next try exponential, eg x^y.
then factorials.
trig would be useful for the trajectory of your bat gun, so you might as well put that on your calculator as well.
what? you haven't done those yet? oh well, guess you'll have to wait till after you graduate junior high.... :p
after that, it should be easy to program 3D simulations that return the best possible trajectory for your 'bat gun'. NOT.
PS vb is CARP (whoops, wrong spelling  ), get a real language like C, C++ or at least Java. The only thing IMO worse than windows OSs are windows office apps and (the very worst) vb.

Hey, when I was that age, I was dreaming up various gadgets too. I was programming in BASIC on a TRS-80 when I was 12. I wanted to create a 3" wingspan robotic dragonfly with wireless onboard video. I've finally achieved that (slow stick with video downlink), just need to work on reducing the size a bit.
Anyway, ideas like that are what inspired me toward what I do today. I still make little gadgets (ZLog (http://www.hexpertsystems.com/zlog), PRISM (http://www.hexpertsystems.com/prism), etc). They aren't quite so "out there", but I'm still dreaming them up.

When I was that age, I got into "programming" with the DigiComp I computer that I got for Christmas. I wish I still had it.
It was a 3-bit (better than 2-bit) mechanical computer made of plastic, metal and rubber bands. It was really a programmable state machine with eight states.

It usually is a matter of preference. I like to use PIC's and depending on the project either picbasic or C. But others will tell you that they like to use Atmel, etc. It all depends on what you learned on and what your preferred method is. I'll say this and I don't mean to discourage you in any way. " There is more than one way to skin a cat!"
Look around and see what YOU think is best for you, as far as price and your abilities:)
Good Luck, and make sure you are never afraid to ask questions. Most folks will go out of their way to help you out.

Ok, I tried to help before, but I quit...
All you need is to read more and to be less presumptuous.
People who loves airplanes start with a paper plane before building a full scale.
People who loves programming start with a "Hello World" program before making an AI system.
People who loves electronics start with a blinking led...
Why can't you start from beginning???

Ok, if you like advanced projects for beginning, I am pretty sure you can learn by yourself instead of writing orders here like "I want a engineer to send me a circuit...".
Try this link: http://www.bobblick.com/techref/projects/lcdterm/lcdterm.html
There is an example of how to read keys and to write to LCD. Make it and let us quiet, ok?
In this meaning time, try to learn to write in english. I am brazilian, we don't speek english here, but even my small kids can spell in english better then you
I am sure the users of you hundreds of games and web sites will be much happier with correct spell.
By the way, since you understand only VB and things like that and never pay attention to other things in school, we spoke portuguese here(NOT spanish), and "Buenos Aires" is in Argentina, (NOT in Brazil)...

You're right. If he started with something like "Hi, I want to learn to build embedded devices and need advice with a simple keyboard, please help me", I am sure that would be dozens of posts with a lot of info...
Nobody here is paid to write on a thread so the "I want an engineer to send me..." is a really bad way to ask...
I work for a big company and have a very angry boss, but she asks "Please, do this for me ..." when assigns me to a new task. If my boss can do that there is no excuse to write orders to strange people.
Other reason is all major high level programming language like VB, Delphi, SQL (not a programming language, but used on most softwares) and so on are english-based and needs correct spelling and sintax to work.
I never studied english language, but when started to write computer programs (I was 10-year old) all syntax, help files, books and manuals are in english, so I learned by myself to read and write in english. Of course it is not perfect, but is enough to understand and to be understood.
If a person can write phrases like "select username from usertable where user_id is null" or "if object is TQuery then..." there is no good reason to write something meanless like this:
lol am advance technology when i started programming visual basic i never used hello world i start by creating a game i made hundreds of games and finally my final project a GPS receiver

the greatest thing any programmer knows is: don't reinvent the wheel.
there's things out there that will already do what you intend to make with your *sigh* vb code. it's called GPS. they already have them in phones and cars equipped with OnStar.
keep up the ideas... those are always good. you have to be smarter in your solutions. that's key.

Dec 01, 2005, 04:47 PM
BTW bladers, your ice-gun idea is flawed. Refrigerators use compressed freon to cool things. The freon is compressed (thats the motor you hear), then it decompresses in the pipes that run inside the 'frige, and they get cold. Then the freon is recompressed, and it runs back through the 'frige. It's a cycle. It doesn't use the Peltier effect. There are some portable minifriges that use the peltier effect, but they only cool things a little bit, and are much less efficient then a traditional refrigeration unit. If you want an ice gun, just get a tank of liquid hydrogen, and spray it out. However, don't expect to rule the world, I doubt an ice gun will do very much to protect you from a regular gun. ;)

When I was his age they didn't have computers - TV - , wait we did have a model "T" and telephones were the rage - the wall phones with multiple party lines. Electric lines were something kinda new so we didn't have to burn the kerosine lamps in the house but in those days Maine was 40 years behind the rest of the country. WOW, what a 13 year old knows these days ! I remember WW 2 and am glad I was his age when it happened. Oh to be 13 again - how's come he knows so much more than I ???

In my taxonomy of knowledge, there's three distinct classes of people:
1. People that know they know
2. People that know they don't know
3. People that don't know they don't know
The main distinguishing characteristic of #3 is they start with a completely incorrect assumption, and all subsequent questions are based on this incorrect assumption which makes the questions unanswerable and meaningless.
In order to transition from #3 to #2, it is first necessary to realize that one doesn't know in order to make the transition to #1.

PIC16F84 is a little hard to find, you can use 16F628 and disable the analog inputs.
If you live in USA it is easy to buy a PicStart programmer from www.microchip.com. It is possible to make your own programmer interface too, but if anything go wrong will be harder to know if the problem is the circuit, the program or the programmer...

Bladers try this, funny thread, glad you can take the abuse. Most of the stuff I learned was self taught.
http://www.embeddedtronics.com/picmee.html
It's an pic board with a programmer on it, you can also separate it and have a programmer board and pic board separately. It makes development easy since you just plug the board in back of your parallel port to program, then plug it onto a proto board that you can wire more stuff to. You can use any of the 16fXXX series on it. Just follow it up with wireless technology and you can have all your devices on radio waves "Bat waves" ;)

Really, I recommend you to edit the post removing the address...
By the way... Do your parents still have that silver station wagon parked on front of your home?

Bladers, after 7 pages I gotta admit. I dunno about your programmin skills, or if u can really speak 5 languages or if you are typing this from a shared PC in some mental health facility.
But I have to say that you have quite a good will power and an open mind. U have been taking abuse for 7 pages now and you are still going. U have the ablity to laugh at the bad remarks at you, and to take note of the good information here.
Now that is something that needs to be admired. you have good attitude , but You have poor manners and it is this that has generated 7 pages of almost nothing for you.
lol, to top it all you have now started asking for money !!!
anyways, good luck on your quest.
