Hey Jim,
How much nose weight does the (v1) x-tail Graphite 3.1 require to balance? Seems like having the servos in the tail would make it...well...tail heavy? I have an x-tail fuse that I was thinking of setting as an alternative to the v-tail.

Hello Jim,
I have the electric version so I have all the nose weight I need. In fact I decided to run a receiver pack instead of a UBEC and it's mounted behind the wing. Mine is also the 3.45 d-box. I just finished installing the receiver and I'll set the CG tonight. I'll test fly this weekend weather permitting.
Regards,
Jim

Hello Charlie,
Have you test flown your Graphite? The last time we talked you were still waiting for the maiden flight. Anyway, I have a LMT Basic XL with 7:1 Superchief gearbox and 16X8 prop. I have serveral different batteries to try. A 10 cell and 8 cell 2200 NiMh and a 4200 3S2P LiPo. I'm looking forward to the test flight.

hi,
i got tired of messing with the rudder control horn, and not getting full movement, so i did mine like this.
much faster and i get max throws.
mine is a 3.45 electric, and tried a few different packs, and going with 12 cells made a huge improvement over 10 cells.
this is on a Hacker B50 9s, 1950mah packs.

Hi Jim,
no i haven't flown the graphite yet, rain wind and other obligations have been the problem and it looks like rain again this weekend. that's the reason i have to go elec, lot's of good close places to fly with an elec. what is a LMT and how many $'s for your set up. give us pics and detailed reports when you start testing.
Dave,
went to your webb page and found it very intresting, nice work. can i ask you the same question, how much for your set up? can you give more details on your test flights.
Thanks Charlie

i don't remember what it all cost, it's been a couple of yrs.
never had a altimeter in it, but it's darn near vertical on launch, with a 18x10.

Charlie,
The Lehner Motoren-Technik (LMT) is a Basic-4200 not an XL like I thought. I purchase all my motors and batteries from a friend in Germany and I picked this one up on my last trip there in Aug. I paid $240.00 and the Hacker 125 was purchased from a fellow RCGroup member but I don't remember the price. The gearbox is very solid with an oval shaped 7mm shaft. The ESC is over kill for this setup. It should pull 50 to 55 amps at the most. I could switch props and up that to 70 amps but that's pushing the upper limits of the motor.
Dave,
I'm still thinking about shipping my Blaster to you. I had hoped to find someone local for the build. Our club has several great builders and a few that specialize in DLG.

That's a good idea, Dave. Although the original Graphite is a great flying sailplane, one of its few deficiencies is a lack of sufficient rudder authority.
