I'm contemplating purchasing G2 off of Ebay due to the fact that my 1.2 gig machine wont handle G3.
Would this be a good alternative in my case?
I want to use it to teach my 8 year old grandson. He has a couple hours on the buddie chord with a Kadet Sr. He has video game fingers and has caught on fast! I only had to take over a couple times before he 'gotit'.
At any rate, I'd like to use a simulator to help him through the winter so that he could learn take off & landings.
I'd love to upgrade my PC and get G3 but, not enough $$ to go around !!
What'ya think, G2 work for him??

Sure it'll do fine. But for next to nothing you could install FMS.

Dave,
You don't have to upgarde "the whole" PC, upgarding just a video card may well be sufficient. Check what video card you have now and if there are provisions (AGP slot) to install a new card.
Depending on what video your PC has now, it may run G2 quite well. For anything but 3D flight (i.e. slow flying at past-critical angles of attack with the vertical component of the motor thrust keeping the craft airborn) RealFlight G2 is quite adequate. You don't need G3 for learning take-offs and landings. Even reqular aerobatics is quite accurately modeled in G2.

Thanks Boris. Sounds like G2 is just the ticket!
Now to catch a low auction...

I've downloaded and played with fms using a joystick. Yea I thought about just getting a link for my transmitter to run it. But from what I've seen of G2 the whole program looks much better. I'd like to project it onto a wall like Justin Chi :)

G2 is definitely better than FMS. But you can't beat the price. But an 8 yr old won't care. BTDT

G2 is better than FMS by far. Yes I know FMS is free, and it has its good points, but FMS lacks the physics that G2 has, especially the helicopters, so I would always recommend G2 over FMS for that reason.

Well just for info sake. I am running a pentium 800 computer with a ATI 7500 video card and 768mb of ram. The reflex sim run great on it. I just had to uninstall service pack 2 then install the program then reinstall service pack 2. What a pain but it works great.
