View Full Version : Problems with Tamiya Mad Fighter when applying Speed

Hi!

I just finished building my Tamiya Mad Fighter (yippie!) and it works fine, sort-of. I'm using a Tamiya electronic speed control.

The problem is that when I apply full forward speed and then quickly change to full backwards speed, nothing happens. I have to re-center the stick first and if I then apply backward speed it works. This does not happen the other way around, i.e. when I apply full backwards speed and thenn quickly change to full forward speed.

I've configured the speed control as described, i.e.:

Push Set
Apply full forward speed (push the stick to the top)
Push Set
Apply full backwards speed (push the stick to the bottom)
Push Set

I have repeated this configuration step several times, also with different sticks (channels) asigned to the throttle.

Does anyone know what the reason for this could be?

Edit: In another forum someone told me that this is standard behaviour for Tamiya speed controls, can someone confirm this?

Many thanks,
Michael

I have never owned a tamiya but it sounds like it would be something standard with it. So that way you won't rip your drivetrain to pieces. Everytime you switch from forward to revers while still rolling it is really hard on the drivetrain and is not reccommended.

it's a feature in your esc to protect the drivetrain. its called the 'double-pump' which means u have to move the triggrer twice so that u have control over brake and proportional reverse at the same time.

Exactly what Tuele said
there are 3 types of ESCs.
1. Double pump (full forward once for brake, center, forward for reverse)
2. Delay (push forward for few seconds and the ESC goes into reverse; usually 3 to 5 seconds)
3. Racing/Forward only (no reverse at all)
