Hmmm, sorry but I don't know much about the boat you're referencing. I just heard that the San Francisco Model Yacht Club is starting up a 36/600 class so I guess you might be able to race your 1 meter there.
ABC Models makes a nice 36" boat for around $100 that you can buy at Sheldons. I have also been offered a very nice Kyosho boat with radio/sail servo for $230. It is at a hobbyshop located in Concord. We could get together if you're interested as you don't live that far away. I'd have to check and see what exact model it is for you.
We have also formed a new club in the East Bay. It is completely dues free. Check out the website at http://hometown.aol.com/ebmodelboats/ebmodelboats.html e mail me if the link doesn't work and I'll send it to you We plan on doing some informal sailboat racing---Rob

Redster,
I've never heard anything about them, and I've been very involved in R/C Sailing since 1997 as the AMYA's webmaster. I just know Hobby Lobby has them for sale.
Just because their website makes some claims doesn't mean that that boat would pass either the US1M or IOM Class measurements by the way.
The F5-E Class no longer exists and was replaced years ago by the IOM class. One "old timer" I talked to said the F5-E class was 20 years ago. If that's how current the design is, you'd just be wasting your money on it. And that's a $400 kit boat, less all radio gear, with some questionable sails. For a well controlled One meter you need a good sail winch and now you're getting into $550 to $600 for a one meter and ...
You might as well buy one of those others if you want to race competitively in those classes. If it's just for fun sailing then go for it. Whatever your eye says is beautiful, is. Right!
Or look into what is being sailed locally and see if there's not a sail ready starter boat waiting for you out there.
Check out the AMYA club list at http://www.amya.org/clublist.html for listings of area clubs.
