How does a 3-meter mantis (with Aega wing) compare with the new generation moldies (Icons, Pikes, Stratos, Sharons, Zeniths etc etc) in terms of ease of flying, reflexed speed/penetration, thermal performance, launching, and landing?

Thanks!

I dont know if this fully answers you question. My dad has a mantis setup for RES, the first trim flight was 15 minutes the second was 1 hour and 26 minutes.

You might want to check out the Supra Build thread. The most recent entries detail flight reports on this molded variant of the Mantis/Aegea design.

While not a direct comparison, the Supra is a refined design of the original Mantis concept, and a more optimized planform than the Aegea...

Just to make you feel better -- the moldies you mention are old designs that have been available for years. Lots of hype about new planes but in F3J things seem to change very slowly.

Perhaps Supra or the ner 3.7 meter Espada will make to the top. Time will tell...

(with Agea wing) is NOT a 3M Mantis! Phil Barnes has now evolved to a pseudo-Supra planform, and he did quite well with it at the F3J team selection. But his waiting list is getting rather long - - - ! Good Lift!
