Hi to all. I've come back to sailplanes after a long absence and am currently building an Aquila 100"er. It's been a long time and techniques have changed quite a bit. I have a fiberglass fuse, and need for someone to tell me where to go to get info for making carbon rod pushrods. What size rod will I need? How do you attach threaded rods on the ends for clevises. For those who are familiar with the Aquila, you will remember the bellcrank clevis for the flying stab is not assessible once you close up the tail. I wouldn't want anything to come apart in there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Carbon fiber fishing rod blanks. Use the tappered tips. Cut the tip till the 1/16" dia wire slides in. Rough it up and epoxy about an inch or so of it inside the tip. Z bend the other end for the H stab bell crank.

At the other end get a wood dowel that just slides in about 1 1/2". May have to shave the dowel down. Cut a groove in one side for the unthreaded end of the threaded 6" long clevis wire. Bend the end of the wire and stick it in a cross drilled hole about 1/4" from the inside end. Of course this all has to be sized properly or you will run out of threads adjusting the clevis at the servo.

You can put monokote wrapped cross braces in one or two place to keep the push rods from bouncing inside the fuse.

Wood dowels will work as well. Not that much more in weight than the carbon fishing rod tips.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess I may be making a bigger deal out of this than I need to. I'll try to find a source for the fishing rod blanks. I'm really excited about this build. I flew an Aquila in the 70's, and the nostalgia thread brought me back. My wife and son bought a short kit with Figerglass fuse, canopy, and bellcrank from Dreamcatcher Hobbies before they closed up. It was a good Christmas gift to say the least. Thanks again SoCalGliderFlyr
