I was thinking of converting this kit for electric drive. The wing span is 88inches, Area =2232 sq inches, Wt approx 16 lbs ( as described in kit but not sure this includes engine which is 1 .20 to 1.8 4 cycle) . Would Axi 4130/16 , Phoenix 60 on 24 cell NIMH and 14X10 prop work? Recommendations please . Thanks

build it light - it won't need all that beef that has been engineered into it for glow - and you'll easily power it with 1000 Watts or less ... that axi would be up to alright ... as would the new 40 series hyperion ourunners or maybe a plettenberg orbit 30 ...

you can maybe 20 to 25% of the weight of the glow if you build carefully

Flair love lots of liteply in their kits, this can be used as a template to re-cut the parts in balsa. Saved a stack of weight building their Piper Cub that way. I just left the lite ply where it was needed.

Hey now,If you don't want 3d orr pattern like preformace and get rid of all the lite-ply you could power the thing with as little as a Hacker B-50-13s, 6.7:1 gear box, fourteen BRJs and an APC 18-10 E prop.
Still lots more power than scale but only enough for "scale" aerobatics...

The Tiget Moth is not suitable for pattern like performance so scale aerobatics with some extra power left over is all I need out of the motor system. Tks

I have been flying my Great Planes Tiger Moth for some time. It weighs 12.5 lbs and is powered by a 4130/16 and 24 3300's. I'm at 5000ft so I use a 16x8 or 17x8 with extremely powerful results. If you use this combo, I doubt that you will want for power even at 16 lbs.

Here is a link to a video that we shot this summer at 8400ft. It's 24 meg and worth the download:

Here is a thread some details of with my conversion. Welcome to the club!

I've been flying a 1/4 scale Moth for a couple of years now, though it's not from the Flair kit. Mine weighs 18.5 pounds and flies very well on 30 x CP3600 cells, Plettenberg HP370/30/A3S with Kruse 2.4:1 belt drive and 20 x 10 prop. About 1500 Watts of power give too much power for a realistic take-off and just about enough for realistic moth-like aerobatics.
