Fellow fliers,

Aside from the big Cessna, I'm also planning to convert to EP a .60 Katana from UltraRC http://ultra-rc.com/katana50/

Plane specs:
Wingspan: 53”
Wing Area: 500 sq. in.
Ready-to-fly weight: 4.75 – 5.5 lbs. (engine-powered)
Length: 51”

This bird can do good 3d on a YS .63 engine as shown in the videos, I am planning to use AXIs on it.

Any of these a good combo to do 3D?

AXI 2826/08 with Jeti 70amp -
For 8 to 12 NiCad/NiMh cells, 2-4 LiPoly cells. RPM/V 1130, Resistance: 30 mOhms, I Zero 2.8A, Max. current allowable: 50A/60 sec., Max. efficiency current is 25-37A.

OR

AXI 2826/10 with Jeti 40amp - For 10 to 16 cells, 3 to 5 LiPoly. RPM/V: 870, Resistance: 42 mOhms, I Zero: 1.7A, Max. current allowable: 42A/60 sec., Max. efficiency current is 20 to 30A.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shauntot:

Plan on this airplane being in the 6+ lb range when electrified. To do 3D well, the power level must be 120 watts per pound or so, more would not hurt.

Therefore, an AXI 412018 with a 5s pack of 4000 mah or so, with a 15-10 APC eprop and a suitable ESC runs at about 750 watts. a little more than 120W/lb but whoopie. :D

If you must use a Jeti ESC, go for the 70 amp version. It has lower on resistance and hence less heating, a very good thing. Get the programmer thingy too.

However I prefer Castle Creations, a phx60 or phx80 would be great.
Get the Castle Link thingy for CC stuff.

Buy the radial mount kit because this cools the motor the best. Also use a dubro spinnernut not a full size spinner. Why? The spinnernut is smaller and allows the cooling air to be jammed into the motor, a very good thing.

Yeah I like AXI motors, just bigger ones.

Have fun, Fly high with Serious ePower.

shauntot - I agree with Ray, the setup he recommends will do fine with a 6 pound plane. I too, am an AXI and CC fan and would like to hear your results should you decide to use this combo.
