I am new to helis, and was wondering if the JR Venture would be a good first heli? Have any of you flown one?

The Venture is an awesome heli, although, I would recommend the RAptor 30...so here are a few things to consider...

1) I'm going to compare ARF kits here...The street price on the Venture is around $250-$269 for an ARF kit ..NO ENGINE.

The Raptor isn't too bad either...$359-$369 street price for a heli WITH engine! (Even though it is a Thunder Tiger Brand)

2) Building the venture is a snap...the easiest heli I've seen thrown together...even if it doesn't come with an engine, at least you can get a good quality one like an OS or WEBRA. JR quality is impecable.

The Raptor on the other hand is also a very easy ARF kit to finish up. The engines already installed. There had been quality issues in the past, but have seen it improve. I would just recommend upgrading the muffler and replacing the O-ring in the needlevalve.

3) Radio setup -- You may end up paying a bit more to get a radio to fly the Venture. Not too many radios have CCPM programming.

The Raptor on the other hand, you can use an average 6 channel radio and have no problems flying.

4) Parts availability - Not quite there yet on the Venture. It is still a very new product and not too many local hobby shops would stock a lot of the parts yet. So plan on waiting 1-2 weeks to get the parts you need,

The Raptor parts on the other hand, can be found in most any hobby shop.

Those are just a few things to come to mind.

I can see why you think the raptor might be better, but I already have a ccpm radio which I know will work with the venture. Also I don't have a hobby shop closer than one and a half houres away, so I would be mail ordering parts anyway. I would like to know how they compare on flight performance and especially training
Thanks:D

Performance wise...the Venture is the best way to go...it's CCPM of course!

Since you already have a CCPM capable radio, the venture would be the best bet. I would use the training flybar paddles and set the helicopter up as directed for such.

A friend of mine is sponsored by JR and had received his Venture last month. An amazing helicopter. Capable of most advanced 3D manuevers and not as sloppy as the Raptor.

Just take the time to Dial Indicate the Auto Rotation Hub/Gear..There appears to be a slight defect in the way they are manufacturedbeing as much as .070" off! From what I understand, JR will be addressing the issue shortly, so it's a matter of time before we see kits without the defect.

The helicopter builds fast...just set all the servo horns up for 90 degrees for the CCPM and your ready to go!
