I was wondering if anyone did an E-conversion of the Kyosho P-40.
It's 40 to 53 size.
Would apriciate any suggestions for motor/prop combo's including geared options.
I'm a "converted" methanol sniffer trying to better my life :D
This means i'd have to buy it all new anyway so don't hold back on your suggestions.

hey garfield,
I have a built kyosho P-40 here.Flew really nice. I took the glow motor off and will probably convert it too. only problem is I need a cowl for it .
there are tons of options . Geared Mega,Hacker..etc .
direct drive, there's a lot of outrunners on the market .
the general rule of thumb is around 100 watts /lb for good warbird- like performance. the Kyosho P-40 probably weighs around 6 lbs.
look @ hobby lobby and e-flightline . they've done a ton of conversions.
don't hesitate to call them up .
cheapest way seems to be an AXI 4120 or 4130 series on 5-6s lipo cells or nmh.
I have a couple of hacker combos better for .60 size planes so it's a bit of $$$
but cheaper than buying a new setup.
take care.

Go the AXI way, the 4130 16. I have several on the 6s2p (total 5300mha) and have totaly reliable performance. I use a 14x10 to pull 800watts that works for the 2.5 to 3kg setups, Gonsos suggests a 15x8, I would love to use one too but are a little too close to the ground for comfort. I use Jetti opto 77amp controlers and sbec power for the gear.
Good luck on the project,
Graham

Thanx for the advise guys !
I'm going the AXI way.4130 16. with APC prop (still have to decide size)
On 2 x 3s packs so I can use the 3s packs in my KC F-18.
Ordered Retracts today, will order motor this week and controller (Jeti opto 77 amp seems nice) separate reciever pack.
Just have to wait building till i'm back from Bin Laden country :-( (november)
Anyway i'll have all the parts by then.
Just one more question..........Any suggestions on sidethrust and downthrust ?
Normally i just go with normal down and zero sidethrust on the little ones.
This is the first serious elec prop.
I guess the bigger motors do suffer from Torque ???
