I have a hacker b50 9xl / 5s3 6750 /jeti 70 opto /ubec 15x10 in it.

around 850+ watts .

better for .60 size ,but I came in @ 6.5 lbs the box says around 6 so..

only problem is I'm quite nose heavy . Still flies good.

need a spinner and get the canopy and cowl mounted .
used tape for the maiden :o . and get the LG raked forward a bit more.

left the pants off as I fly off a dirt road .

Looks great!

Mine had a serious problem nosing over every time I landed as well. I bent the landing gear wires so the wheels were ahead of the leading edge and it solved the problem. That gear wire is monster thick.

I did an awesome upright flat spin the other day with my Super Chipmunk. I was enjoying it drop vertically from about 300 feet to 100 feet with it spiralling nicely when I tried to get out of the spin, and couldn't. The control surfaces weren't doing anything. So I throttled up all the way and it mercifully pulled out of the spin about 20 feet off the ground. I've only been able to pull off one more of those nice flat spins. The trick seems to be a burst of throttle and full rudder application just at a stall.

This model is a good sport flyer great value! I bashed mine into the dirt at full throttle due to a radio problem and was able to repair the fiberlglass fuse and cowl without much effort. And it still flys great.

Wow - that's a lot of flying you got in there, especially for a maiden. Looks fantastic - and at a great price too. You are nothing if not prolific - I'm still diddling with my AT-6.

hey all,

Thanks ,Thunder for pointing me to this great deal .
2 clicks of elevator trim and it 's hands off cruise @ 1/4 throttle .

1st flight= 7 min. pack took back 1200 mah out of 6750 !!! :D

to lighten things up ,I think I'll drop a pack ,prop down a tad and go 5s2p

good luck with the Texan Joe.

take care all ~

Lighter is better! I'm flying mine with an AXI 2826-10, 4s2p 4000 pack and a 12x6 prop. It's about 5.5 lbs. I get plenty of vertical but it won't hover, not that it really needs to hover. It's actually a challenge to get this model to do some of the more advanced aerobatics which are so easy to do on my overpowered SA Groove.

yup, I'm around 6.5 lbs . It will really get up and go and prolly will hover ,but I'm not into that either. I could reconfigure the servo tray to ride further aft and slide the packs back to get the cg right on , but like ya say lighter= better + I won't be loosing too much "oomph" by going 5s2p 4500 as opposed to 6750 . Just shorter flights.

oh man, I forgot I have that one under the bed ARC :o

too many planes

Ahh!! Under the bed. Great Idea! Now I could fit two more in my House! LOL.

Can you post some pics off your motor setup, battery placement, etc. Would like to see it.

hey Sam,

I have to run out and get a new camera battery charger. :(

layout nothing special, just a aluminum b50 mount from esprit.
packs are "velcroed" in and everything else is just taped/ velcroed to the sides out of the way.
when I get the camera going again I'll put some pics up .
The one I have of the plane I took with my buddies cam.

take care,
Henry

p.s. yup ,under the bed ."The boss" never looks there ;)

Nice plane Swamp Fox, I have a Flair kit but runs a 70 OS, built it before I started playing with electric. Interesting reading about the problem pulling out of a spin. Art Scholl who was the famous stunt pilot who made this plane famous died in a very similar stunt during the filming of Top Gun. I was reported he put the plane into an inverted spin and was unable to pull out, crashed into the sea and was never found. Maybe the kits carry this same 'death' feature!

Pic enclosed of the OS Chip, wheels modified for rough patch conditions, and forward of leading edge.

nice marc,

Heard that story as well.

I read it wasn't a Chimpmunk ,but a Pitts that Mr. Scholl died in.

take care,
Henry

Yeh, it was a Pitts.. He was doing the "flat spin" sequences for Top Gun, went through a cloud layer, chase plane followed and nothing was there.. they thought he had recoverd and flew back up above the clouds.. but that had not happened.. :(

Has anybody else done an E conversion to this particular model?

Hi Folks
I had a model that would flat spin to the left to order. Recovery by using down elevator only increased the speed of rotation. The solution was to apply full up elevator with opposite rudder and the spin stopped within two turns. Seems the airflow around the rudder is better with the up elevator. Might be worth trying with sufficient height.

Nice vid. Would you mind showing a picture of the landing gear? I have a phase 3 super chipmunk(the little foam version) but it doesn't have gear. I'd like to see where to put some that I'm going to fabricate.

Thanks,
Spark

The gear on the CMP Super Chipmunk are too far back from the leading edge for reliable taxiing on grass. I'd suggest getting the gear mounted as close to the leading edge as possible so you don't get constant nose-overs on landings. Here's a picture of the full scale gear for reference:

I just finished mine. Nice model, great price (if you don't mind supporting the Chinese slave labor market).

I used an AXI 2826/10, 11x7e APC prop, Kontronics 40A esc, TP 3S 2100 mAh pack. I did lighten it a bit. Final weight 4-3/4 lbs.

I'm still fine tuning the trimming but I'm very pleased with the model. Mine uses the pants, but no spinner.

Daren, What did you do to lighten it?

Are you using two packs i.e. 3s2p? What's the amp draw? I'm using a 4s2p setup with the same motor and it would be nice to be able to drop down to a 3s1p setup. I don't think I could get it to balance that light though.

I don't mind supporting chinese laborers, without it they would be starving.

It wasn't really any one thing, it was a lot of little things that added up.

1. A lot of hardware was left in the bags; motor mounts, aluminium wing tube, screws, etc.

2. A lot of plywood was removed from the fuselage. The firewall was swiss cheesed, servo tray almost completely removed and rear bulkheads ended up shadows of their former selves.

3. Lighter servos; HS-81MGs in the wings for ailerons, and two standard servos in the fuse (rudder & elevator).

Nope, just one pack (3S1P-2100). Weighs 4 oz. Amp draw is about 25A. The flight times are pretty short, however. The model will easily carry more weight, so I may go to a 2P setup to increase the runtime.

I've been flying one of these CMP Chipmunks for several months now, AXI2826/10, 4S4P Thunderpower (getting some use out of my Gen1 lipos, props are a bit kinder than EDF applications as far as amp draw goes). APC 12 x 6e, CC Phoenix 60 with heatsink strapped on. Power about 750 watts, weight is around 6 lbs, just over, looking for the 'yellow sticky' note I wrote the weights on. It could use more power for better vertical but it gets by, I'm not quick enough on the rudder to do 3D stuff anyway, but I love lomcevaks of all flavors. The plane doesn't like to snap outside with full down, left aileron and left rudder unless it's fast, and then it only goes over once. Inside snaps are fast and easy. I finally started trying to flat spin this thing recently and got it to flatten by keeping throttle on during a spin, holding full up, and left on both ail. and rudder, then reversing the ailerons to full right, boy does it flatten out! I neutralize the controls and it keeps going for about three or so turns, it's wound up so fast. Opposite rudder kicks it out earlier.

It's still bare with no decals or wheelpants, maybe it's time to spruce it up. I thought about changing to Art Scholl's other wing scheme with the sunburst (he had three Super Chipmunks total, one with retracts), but too many other airplanes to work on.

Daren, I love the pictures in the cowling, great idea!

Hi Henry,

Sorry I missed your post. Thanks. It is a nice field. I'm pretty lucky to get to fly there.

Thanks Ed. I thought about going to the airport and shooting some pics of our Tiger's inlets, but got lazy and found some pics online instead.

I'm still learning it's quirks, but overall I'm very happy with the way it flies. Very true model; just like a Chipmunk.

Hi, I am about to maiden my CMP superchipmunk. I mounted a 26cc gasser on it, and I'd like to hear some comments before puting it on the air.

what would be the correct CG? I've heard that CMP's istructions don't show the right CG.

how it does behave with the flaps down, do you use it as well for take offs and landings?

how to avoid nosing over, a bit of up elevator will work?

thanks for your comments.

Daren

A 26cc gasser?! Yikes! How much does your model weigh?

You will probably want to use a bit of up elevator on take off. Like the PT-19, the Chipmunk with the gear in the wings needs it.

I can't speak to the use of flaps because mine wasn't set up for them. Generally, with models you can be pretty safe to start with the C.G. at or just in front of the main spar.
