I was thinking of converting something like the Magic Formula 3D to electric, and would like to get suggestions on the power system, speed control, servos and batteries.... any help would be greatly appreciated

Looks real nice :) Without knowing the weight of the airframe and other details its hard to guess. Some of the mid wing planes like that can be a little tricky to convert because the battery space is a little cramped.

You may just have to get one and lead the way!!!

See if this is what your looking for:

Dont know much on the 3D flying. I don't know what watts per pound those guys use. On my planes I usually use the 100watts per pound formula.
Maybe they use more power, to get there planes to hang on the prop.

Also, check out the other conversions that HL has, if that helps too.

Good Luck.

I have done quite a few conversions on the modeltech line up, and in the size you are looking at, the mega 22-30-2 on a 5:1 mec or inner-demon gearbox apc 19-8 eprop, jeti 70 opto with ultimate bec and 5000mah 6s 25v volt tanic or duralite makes and excellent combo, but the one thing you will need to do is cut some weight and make provisions for adequate cooling, the power system will make more than enough power to 3d with a 8 pound plane.

Right now I am working on the Hangar 9 Showtime e-conversion using a similar setup, and if you go tho the Horizon website, you can check out my article on the Seagull Harrier 3D E-conversion...that plane was awesome.
