A rather vague question but her goes.

Correct me if I am wrong please.......

There are chargers that cycle batteries as well as charge and discharge
them. IMO that was more useful when using Nickel Cadmium cells since they
were prone to memory issues. This is not a real issue when using Nickel
Metal cells that I have yet to encounter memory issues with. My Charger (MRC
959) does not cycle nor discharge but I tend to run my batteries down
completely before charging therefore kind of cycling them. I guess it comes
down to what you are using them for, Racing or Bashing around. If you are
racing you may need to get a better charger that does it all so you don't
have too while you are racing.

The other issue would be whether to use NiCad or NiMH. From what I can tell,
NiCad packs more Punch but NiMH lasts a little longer. NiCad is more work to
maintain a good working pack but NiMH is very finicky about overcharging so
you need a good charger.

Just add a little something.
My MRC 959 does both NiCad and NiMH and the packs barely even get warm.
There are better but this is good value, best bang for the buck kinda thing.

I'm sorry for the vague question, but it was late and I was tired from all
the Googling searching for my answer, but hey, thanks for replying. After
reading your response, I looked into what I really needed/wanted. After
doing this, at this time, all I can say is ARRRGGG!. I wanted to be able
to recharge my new reciever pack, which is NiMH. Ok, no problem, most decent
chargers can do this with no problem. I also wanted to recharge my TX pack
(JR XS3) which I ordered from Horizon Hobby. But it does not say if it is
NiCad or NiMH! All I have been able to find is that it "requires" a JRPC222
charger that looks like a cheesey generic wall charger ($29.95), and takes
15 HOURS to recharge the battery pack!!! No LEDS, no display, no nothing.
Surely there is a decent "automatic" charger I can get for something less
than about $100. Any suggestions? Thanks again....

I agree, the Superbrain 959 is a deal at $45. I have used it for a
year and its great. The only time it heats up is when I am charging
back to back 3300mah packs at 4 amps. But for ease of use and
adjustability, you can't beat the value. It can do nicads and nimh no
problem. You can even connect it to your car battery when your in the
field.

No worries. Just so you know. I charge all my packs with my 959. I have
charged from 4 cells to 8 and it automatically detects if it's NiCad or
NiMH. So you don't really need to know what they are to charge them with
this Charger. There is a better one from the same company that does 2 packs
at once also. I think it's the 969.
