Been looking around for DIY BEC for 4S/6S and 9S Lipo input. I found this IC:

Seems like this IC, a diode, couple of caps and inductor can make a BEC rated to 40V for about $5. Anybody see a reason this will not work for RC applications?

I have been using the LM2575(1Amp version) some years ago for supplying a microcontroller, and it works very well.
When you are going to use it in a RC application you must be very carefull when making the PCB layout. If you be accident are making big loops that are carrying the ripple current, they will radiate radio noise and mayby disturbe your receiver.

Here is a thread that talks about a similar chip:

Can this regulator be used to craete a constant current, like the linear voltage regulator?

It could, but a current mode regulator will get you there with a lot less trouble. The national simple switchers are too integrated to allow for much design flexibility. This makes them easy to use, until you want to do unusual things.
