I know there has been some discussion of this previously but I am looking for the fix to this. Many Reflex plane downloads simply do not work. When choosing the model "ERROR READING MODEL APPEARANCE DATA FILE" is displayed. Manually choosing the model appearance and sound does not work either. I'm ready to give up on these.

If putting the model files at the top level in the Flugzeug folder doesn't work then it's time to give up on them. There are a lot of 3rd party model files that just don't work. I've never heard an explanation as to why someone would publish a model that deosn't work, could it be that it has fallen foul of upgrades to the host software.
Andy.

After you click on the model you want, make sure you have the right model in the "Model Appearance" in the model parameters page. After you click on the model you want, you have to make sure it is in the model appearance, on some 3rd party models it won't go in there (same with the sound).

This seems to be the case. I will delete these models. Thanks for your help.

Please check the file size. If the mod file is abt. 500 to 1.000 KB only, they are made for version 5.02. Some models are available made with the new RMK using the compressed data file. Update to 5.02 and see if they work in that version.

Thank you KurtHubener. This worked for approximately half of the troubled downloads.

can you direct me to a model that doesn't work? Just curious what that might be.

Currently these models will not open from the model selection.
There must be a problem with the files because they are not proceeded with a (+).
(w3_godberg_piper_cub) and (harrier_x)

Hmmmm ... the Harrier is rubbish. It only contains a MOD files but no PAR. Not even a good design - forget it.
BUT the W3 Cub is just perfect!!! If you extract the zip-file, you will find an EXE file and you have to run the EXE. Only this process will install the model, not the unzipping.

I've encountered a different kind of error - related to scenaries. When I've tried to run certain scenaries for the first time, I get a Windows memory error, and I must abort Reflex. I'm running XP Pro with 1 GB of RAM, so I don't think I'm actally running out of virtual memory. I run the simulation in display mode 1600x1200x32, and a panorama resolution of 8160x3060, Reflex version 5.02.1 This has happened to me with about ten of the total number of scenaries available for download from rc-sim.de.
has anyone else encountered this problem?
Thanks,
Chris

1600x1200x32 is pretty big - I hope you have the right video card and video memory for that resolution?
Which Reflex version are you running? Try opening the new scenery files (JPG) in a pixel editing program and safe it at the same location with the same name but in BMP format.

Kurt,
I have a card with the NVIDIA Geforce 6800 chipset and 128 MB of RAM. I didn't think about running out of Video memory, but that sounds possible. I'm using the latest Reflex 5.02.1. I don't think it's the video resolution/color depth, but what exactly is the effect of my using the highest panorama resolution?
Thanks,
Chris

That must be cutting edge for this card and 128 MB of memory. Go to SIMULATION - DISPLAY MODE DURING ... and try some lower full screen resolutions step by step.
In SCENERIES - PANORAMA RESOLUTION you are setting the limits for the TMP files. Watch the directory \umwelt\wlp\"scenery"\. You will finf a S1.bmp or S1.JPG and a lot of ~s1_8g.dds files. The S1.jpg is the master file and according to the settings in PANORAMA RESOLUTION, the ~s1_... files are generated when you first select the scenery or when you change the resolution.
Can you tell me a good example for a nonworking scenery? I would like to try if that happens on my machine as well. Personally, I don't use these third party sceneries because they just miss the touch and feel of a scenery designed with the rsk.

Kurt,
When I try to load scenary "FSC-Siegburg", for example, during the processing to create the panorama, I almost immediately see the error below. Since I am a software developer and have MS Visual Studio installed, my debugger automatically starts, and displays the offending code. I hope this helps.
Just to clarify, my video card is an XFX Geforce 6800 (12 pipes), and has 128 MB of video RAM. My system has 1 GB. This is a very good video card, and is capable of playing any game at full speed.
Thanks for your response.

Please convert S3_a.jpg to S3_a.bmp and it works. Lousy read-me.

Thanks, Kurt.
I first converted the file to a 24-bmp, and it still didn't work. I then converted it to an 8-bit, and it worked fine. I appreciate your help.
