Can anyone help me with some of these ICs? I can't find them here in South Africa. Perhaps I could help you out with something else again...

Been a long thread on this here earlier. Do a serach. Its got 3361 in the title, or MC3361.
They are all obsolescent devices, but can be extracted from e.g. baby alarms or scrap broken recievers for prototyping purposes. JETI and HITEC 35MHz feather recivers use em at least. - ofetn turn up on ebay.
Suffice to say that other pin compatible devices do exist, but are hard to find in the hobby market (what isn't?, apart from digital stuff)
Or you can buy a micron kit from the UK and get most of what you need from that.
http://www.micronradiocontrol.co.uk/index.html
Actually, the smallest of those has a separate decoder board, and is a great place to start if you want to mess with intelligent decoding.
I've still got some 455Khz ceramic filters I got off ebay, that I probably won't use now...someone else in the UK sent me a receiver he designed after I sent him a pack..and its so good and so beyond anything I could build, that I gave up on being clever...I can't even SEE his components. SMD is beyond my eyesight and soldering ability :D
Its actually my best and most interference free reciever.

Yup, they are hard to find. If you need a moderate qty, Digikey.com has the BA4116 (TA31136 clone) in stock.

I have bought MC3361 in SMD and DIP pkg here. MC3362 is available in DIP. If you need them, let me know. The IC's themselves are not very costly, but postage from here might be too high.
I'm not sure what frequency you are planning to use them at, but MC3361 is not good at 72MHz. The 4116 would be better.

Hi Rajesh
Looks like you are my hero. SMD for me as I need it to be as small as possible. I'm going to be running on 35MHz, so MC3361/2/3 will be fine.
Can you make me a price per device? Which ones have you got? I would prefer MC3363, but MC3362 or MC3361 will be OK.
You can just put them inbetween two pieces of thin cardboard (for protection) and mail them to me in an envelope like a normal letter. Works like a charm and doesn't cost too much. :D Please find out what a letter from there to here will cost.
Thanks. I await your response urgently!

Since you need SMD, MC3361 is the only one I found here, I will check if they have 3362 or 3363 just in case. The MC3363 in SMD was available at an online store a few months back, but now that domain is for sale :( The last time I bought MC3361, it was Rs60.
I'll have to find out the actual shipping rate, these guys like to charge an arm and a leg for international post.

Can you not buy it yourself, put it in an envelope as previously mentioned and mail it off to me by standard mail? That would be far cheaper.
Rs60 per device sounds good.
Thanks.

Hi DJ Pauw,
That is what I am talking about. It is the postal guys that fleece you  A letter post to US used to cost Rs750 or so.

What?!
I paid Rs16 for a postcard from Mauritius to South Africa. It can't possibly be too much more expensive! Please find out for me...

Haha, if that scared you, check out the fedex rates http://www.fedex.com/cgi-bin/emea-rates-redirect.cgi Make sure you hold on to something steady before looking :D
I'll need to make a trip to the post office to find out. Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you tomorrow. Or atleast on saturday.

 Mine was really old information. Let me see if they offer anything with tracking, I don't have much hopes though. Work kept me in the office all day today, so will check it out tomorrow.
It is nice to hear from you too, was wondering where you went. Send mail when you can.
DJ Pauw,
Let me know how many MC3361 you need. I'll be buying them tomorrow if they have it in stock.

Hi Rajesh
Sorry for not answering sooner. I was out of the office too much!
I would like about 4 of the MC3361, but I doubt I can afford to buy them this month.

Got it! But prices have gone up from last year, this time he wanted Rs75 each. I had to make a judgment call whether you would be ok with the higher price and went ahead and bought it. My reasoning was that the petrol cost to go there was much more than the price difference, so going back there after checking with you was not a very attractive option.
PM me your postal address.

DJPAUW:
This has been mentioned the nth time in the forum but may still be worth something for you. Look for cordless phones in flea markets. Open it up and if you are lucky, you will find an MC3361 in the base and the handset. REally old ones used the 3357 upwards...MC3363. They are all FM narrowband IF IC. The 3363 is more advanced and has an RF pre-amp and has a sensitivity of .3uV at 12 SINAD. But the 3362/63 have more pins (24/28). The ICs are longer. I would go for the 3361. AS a bonus, you can find 2 ceramic filters in those phones. I opened up a Sanwa RX and it uses an "E" suffix CFI. If you fine and "E" , you can use them in RX for RC. They have a 7.5Mhz+/- bandwidth.
I wonder what you are building. You may exchange notes with me at: rcdevices@yahoo.com.ph
Bravokilo :)

I don't think you can find MC336x in the cordless phones now. Most of time, you will
get TB31224 or similar chip which include PLL and IF inside. Maybe you can find MC336x
more easier from computer cordless mouse. You will get 455KHz ceramic filter also.
