Rather than re-invent the wheel.......
does anyone have info( pic asm would be nice..) on a lo rpm tacho circuit based around a pic(16F84A or 16F628..)...the usual R/C ones have too wide a speed range for my requirements...0-3500rpm..

;) Hi, Chip

I'm sorry ... I only have from 42  to 32 000 rpm ... but with a low auto-scale to 1500 rev/mn !!! precision is .1% or better and 2-3-4 blades selectable.

see here : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362286

If interested, gimme a mail ...
