View Full Version : Re-covering blades
J McKernan
Sep 26, 2005, 03:11 AM
I have a Blade CP and the covering on the main blade tips has come open at
the seam and beginning to tear further. Is it possible to re-cover these
blades with Monokote, and if so, could you provide any tips?
Thanks,
Jake

Monokote isn't really man enough for the job, but shrink wrap is. Shrink
wrap for blades is available at most good model stores and comes in a
variety of colours.
Another alternative is to use "sticky backed plastic" (As seen on Blue
Peter), but use only the high gloss type, not he matte finish, as the high
gloss repels cack much better.

I had the same problem with my Blade CP. Some thick CA and a blade
rebalace took care of it.. (right up until I flew the little bugger
into the patio chair and took out both blades. hehehe)

WTF is "sticky backed plastic"? Sounds like a well-worked prostitute
with too much makeup on.. hehehe

Covering splits/cracks are best sorted with ultra thin Zap. It wicks under
the covering better than the thick stuff and weighs bollocks all.

I suspect that on your side of the pond it'll have a name like
"Multi-purpose, adhesive backed integrated shelving protection system" or
summat similar.:-) Anyway, it's a film of plastic with (you're not going to
believe this, but) a sticky backside, so you can stick it to something :)))

Probably would work better, but I didn't have any handy and with the
think stuff, I was able to mash it all into place and hit it with some
kicker to keep it there.

I used that kicker stuff once. JUST once. As soon as it left the squirter, I
couldn't breathe and my heart began racing like Valentino Rossi. Never
again.

That's probably it then, although how you managed to get a description using
only two words, is beyond me and to do it TWICE!! :-))

We're much more efficient over on this side of the pond.. No extra
"U" in words like color and honor and certainly no extra "S" on math.

comment necessary I believe:-)

I used the "matt" stuff and it does get all black from your fingers.
Baby wipes are brilliant at cleaning blades tho, including the matt
covering!
I'm sure someone could get some re-labelled baby wipes and sell them as
blade cleaning wipes at a considerable markup :)
