HELLO!
I've been doing some research for outfitting my 60size Goldberg Ultimate Bipe with an electric setup. I found this forum when I scrolled down too far on my way to the "for sale" forum.
Anyway I wanted to say thank you to all that have posted. So far after reading through just about every post in this subject, I think the AXI 4130/16 will do great. I'm guessing I'll use (2) 2S?P 4000+mAh li-po. Not sure what prop to use yet. Any suggestions?
I've learned from this forum that my next step should be to upen up my ARF and weigh all the individual components. I never thought of that. On the box, it's tagged as 7-8.5lbs flying weight. recomended glow is .60-.90. I was going to put an RCS 140 (22cc gas) if I don't go with electric. That engine is only 2lbs with ignition.
So thanks again. And let me know what prop I should use.

(2) 2S?P 4000+mAh
This is kinda small for that motor. If you put the pack in series, it will still be too small(4cell or 14.8volts).
I would go with a 6cell lipo or 22.2volts. Maybe two 3cell packs in series, to get the 6cell total.
Then you have to figure your Budget factor, size, and weight of the li-pos. I'll post some links on Li-Po batteries that might help you:

http://parts.rctoys.com/rc-toys-hobbies/Thunder%20Power/Large%20Thunder%20Power%20Packs/
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/thunderpower.htm
Now of course there polyquest lipo's and Etec, etc.., So you might want to shop around.
HL has a TP 3s2p 4200mah for $139.00 at 9.4oz, which is not bad if your taking the weight consideration. Two would make 18.8oz, little over a pound.
If you manage to keep things light, and at half throttle you get good flight speed drawing 20amps continously(1/2 the amp rating for continous use of that motor).
Then you could fly for 12 minutes. Since thats not really going to be the case because the throttle is adjusted throughout the flight. It gives you an Idea of what your limit on time for the first few flights would be.
But try to be conservative, at first. Fly for 5 minutes, then recharge your battery, and see how much you put back into it. If your still below the 1/2 way of the capacity of your battery, then fly the next time for 8min, and so forth, until you reach a point where you are not going to discharge the pack completely during the flight.
Hope this helps a little.
Lets get this forum, up there where it belongs. I would really like to see more conversions done and posted in this forum.
I hope you can start a thread on this, would really like to follow.
Sam :)

Sam,
DOH! I agree with what you were saying about 6cells. I actually intended to write (2) 3S?P to get my 22.2volts. Thank you for catching that. If I go through with electric, I will definitly create a new thread and document the process.
Today I ordered the World Models Ultimate 40S. I intended to put the GMS40 on it from my trainer but now I'm thinking that plane is just too nice to be getting all greasy. Might have to go electric on that. Then maybe gas on the Goldberg. So many choices.....so little money.
I'll see if I can get a few guys in my club to post a thread on their conversions. I know of a couple well worth reading about.
Thanks for the reply!

Rocko,
I'm looking to buy the World Models Ultimate 40S to convert to electric. Did you followthrough with that? If so how did it go? Specs, mods etc?
Colin.

Wollins,
I started a new project so mine is still in the box. Here are a couple of my threads that may help you out. I posted component weights too.

Keep me posted. I'd like to see how this flies as an electric.

NightZ:
A good prop for the AXI 413016 with (2) 3s?p packs is an APC 16-10 for pattern or 17-10 for 3D. This will get you about 950 watts or 1050 watts respectively. This is real test data done in my Lab with an Astro Whattmeter. Either prop gives serious power. YMMV. :D
You may need longer legs for that bird or maybe a 3 blade or 4 blade prop (same pitch, smaller dia) to use the stock LG. Sorry I have no test data for multiblade props. TNT Landing Gear can help with a longer aluminum LG.
BTB, use a Dubro spinner nut for the axi with the radial mount kit. Dont use a full size spinner. The dubro spinner nut allows the cooling air flow to be jammed into the AXI beast for optimal cooling, a very good thing. Not to scale but oh well. compromises, compromises, Sigh! ;)
Good Luck -rjf
