Don't kill me on this one. I really don't wanna post this but there's some dumbass stuff I did on this one that I thought I'd share.

I've joined a club since then and have beceome more safety conscious.... Oh man, take a look at that "duh" look in the end.

What head speed are you running? The head speed looks a little low and the gain on the gyro look a little high. Keep up the good work, you'll be ringing that baby out in no time :D .

The setup on the vid was still:

OS 28 engine
480mm wood blades
Stock tail rotor
Hirobo muffler (original)
no header tank

I also noticed the low headspeed and I sometimes drop and can't get lift. So, I installed the enya 35x... the rest was installed too. I still have to tune the newer engine and setup the heli and the radio.

Adryan........ VERY CLOSE CALL!!! good thing it landed on skids and not on blades..... You need to get ur self some 3600 and a battary checker!!! not the fisrt time ur battarys died eh?

I know I got lucky on that BATTERY DEATH.... my kid (on camera), nephew and niece was there too. Imagine if it was 30 feet up in the air or hovering in my face... bbbrrrr gives me the chills. That was practically my 5th or 6th flight for the day and I'm running a 700mah Sanyo batts. I guess that was why I posted the vid, but I guess it wasn't that obvious that the battery died right after lift off.

...I also noticed the low headspeed and I sometimes drop and can't get lift... There's an old saying ... You had to be there. Videos of helis flying sometimes give the illusion of the rotor flying slow or even being stopped. The sampling rate of the camcorder can get "synced" or near "synced" with the rotor speed and result in what appears to be a slow rotor or even stopped rotor. Optical tachs work on the same princple ... adjust the tach until the rotor "visually" stops and then read the RPM. The only real way to tell rotor speed on a video is to listen to the engine speed and ignore what you see.

Since you were there and you say it was low, then it was low. If the enya 35x performs anything like the OS 32, you will be happy for the change. You may even have to bump up to the 550 blades to handle the power or run higher pitch settings.

Regardless of engine size, there's really two things that determine RPM (at least things that don't require changing parts out). Power output of the engine and the load on the engine (varied by changing pitch). A low RPM simply means either not enough power (not surprising with a 28) or too much load (pitch to high for the power output). If power is a constant, change pitch settings is the only variable to adjust RPM. Lowering the setting a little might bring the headspeed back up.

Of course, I wouldn't bother if your gonna change to the 38 because you are going to have to change the settings again anyway.

If you can handle an under powered heli then a rip-snorter is going to feel like a dream.

Nice video. Were you flying near the Copola's estate? Seemed like a lot of movie making directions in the background ...
"don't look at the camera, don't look at the camera, just go on by ..." (from Apocalypse Now) ... "stay in the picture", "don't zoom in so much"

We'll be watching their $30 million movies in a few years. That's what it's all about isn't it! Keep 'em involve, but keep 'em safe!

Good Luck,
