With any model, when is it finally done?

With my model of the "White Star" by Billing Boats I thought I was finished the details and gave her the maiden voyage. Got the "prop problem" sorted out and as I was working on that I realized that the stanchions and guard rails specified in the kit were very, VERY fragile. Being made from the supplied brass wire they were prone to bending with the slightest touch. So I decided to modify them to something that wouldn't show every little bump and misplaced grab.

With any model, when is it finally done? That's a hard question to answer sometimes. And the answer depends on the model and the builder. Generally, when you've added all the details you want. You're skills improve with each one, and you'll lean new ways of doing things.

I've had a few models where I asked, "When will I ever finish this darn thing?"

Bob, With her size and all her detail, I'll bet the Tamaroa was one of them.

Actually, the TAMAORA was not one of the models where I asked when will I ever finish this thing. I still have some details I'd like to add to the TAMAROA, like: P-250 firefighting pumps; a rack of 5 gallon gas cans on the port inboard quartedeck area; lengths of 4" suction hoses for the P-250's; and a few more crew figures.

The Dean's Marine DUKW was the most recent model that I thought I'd never finish.

Bluesy, Unfortunately, model boats are never finished. I learned many years ago that you don't really finish a model, you just pick a place and stop. The good news is that you can pick it back up any time you want. The amount of detail which can be added to any boat is just about limitless.
