Hey Guys,

I love the looks of the Alfa FW-190 but I also love a good balsa plane. I love my Molt Models Hellcat and would love some other warbirds like this to build.

Unfortuneatly there are not too many german balsa builds in the CDR size. So I might try my hand at scratch building one. I'm trying to lay it out in Cad so I can get the parts laser cut.

Anyway anyone else have similar projects?

I saw this one:http://www.rcgroups.com/links/index.php?id=4029

I have one still NIB. You know the saying, "One of these days..."

Yeah I have looked at them. I might pick one up for reference but I was thinking something closer to CDrom sized around 30" wingspan.

Try the scale modeling guys, they might help you. Maybe one of Mark Rittinger plans.

I'll do that but I really want to try my hand at making my own plans from 3 views. So any reference is great.

Thanks for the ideas I had forgot about Marks planes. I love his ME-109.

If the Fw is scaled 72%, it'll cme out to 30" span, and make a nice 400 sized bird.

Thanks for the compliments on the 109!

I built a FW190D-13 using the Ryan crutch-fuselage method, didn't generate a great deal of interest so I didn't bother making plans in PDF.

32" span, 29" long, oversized the wings a little.

I could make plans available after a little more testing...

Hmm it looks like you skewerd the plane in that pic! Looks nice though. How well does it fly for you?

Actually it's sitting on a guide for flowering plants!

The plane is speed 400 size. Flies like a heavy thing. This was a prototype, just to see how it would turn out. The wings are sheeted foam, weighed 3.5 ounces before adding servos. I'd build up the wings next time and choose lighter wood for the fuse. It's waiting for a good slope soaring day, that may be the best use for the proto.

Right now, I've got other things to crash and build.

I just finished a quick blue foam FW-190D, tired of looking for a simple and cheap FW and not wanting to invest the time (yet) in a balsa flyer I will crash as a beginner (but I am sure I will get the itch some day).

Not a "balsa" product, but I did post a build thread in the foamies:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422890

There a couple of inboard profile pix you might be able to use (if you are making a Dora).

Don't want to divert a thread, but if you are a FW lover like me, you like to see lots of examples to go from. :o The 190D makes a nicely balanced plane, but I think if you leave the wings scale (as I did) it will have to fly fast.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing!

Hey that's a nice looking FW-190D. I've thought about doing one in foam to test the size and play with the CG. I'll take a look at your thread.

Thanks,

Steve

The Guillows plan modified to about 35" makes a good flier. I built this from foam and it flew great on a GWS 400 geared, 10-1050 kans. I've since retired it after many flights.

OK Models made a Pilot series kit of the FW-190. Don't think it's in production, but the kits are still out there.

Good Luck!

Tommy

P.S. Rick that FW-190 is great!!!! The lines really capture the FW-190

Here is my CDR powered FW-190. Its the Guillows 16.5 inch ws model. A ton of fun for the $9 kit.
