Hi all,
I have posted some diagrams and a description of how to build spoilers into an aircraft. If anyone is interested check this post - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4328342&postcount=17
It can be found in posts 17 and 18.

I respect Dr. Drela's opinion above all others!

After doing quite a lot of reading on the 'net I agree Ollie!

In regards to your enclosed spoiler bays, at first I thought it was overkill. But as I imagined the turbulence flowing over the spoiler and into the wing, I realized that spoiler bays could solve a couple of problems;
1. The wing skin won't "balloon" out changing the shape of the airfoil
2. There is less of a chance the skin will try to pull away from the structure due to the ballooning mentioned above
In conclusion, I now plan on incorporating bays on my BoT as well!

Strangely enough, I initially thought it may be overkill myself! :)
I adopted the bay concept for the reasons you mention plus me not liking the fact that there would be air movement and possibly vertices created by gaps around the spoiler.
Please take note of the debate going on in my build thread about the merits of using a direct linkage as opposed to using a pull-only system of control.
Good luck adding them to your BoT. :)
