Sad to say, but our web site dosnt get updated very often :(
We have had a few out of town people driving to Visalia to practice
for the fall fest.
Three to four hours drive time each way just to practice ?

Im thinkin they might be some serious competitors.

Who says soaring is dead ?

I will be there along will a few hundred friends! The flying is the best in CA and the people are great!

I will be flying in RES with my Marauder. Hope to do some fishing with my son on Thursday.

Thanks for the pics MT. The first pic sure looks like my buddy Mehrdad shooting some landings off the bungee, he would be the guy who just threw what appears to be the yellow Icon. Could I be right? For what ever reason, I got burnt on soaring competition, just as I was finally starting to improve, promised myself I wouldnt fly in any more comps til the desire to fly, practice, etc came back. Tell you what though, looking at these pics sort of makes me wish Id signed up. Cant keep away though, probably will run down tomorrow and watch one day then do a little DLG with you all in the afternoon.
Thanks again for the pics!

Wow, what a blast. Great people, challenging conditions and very well run.

I took 109th!!!!!!

Tanked the last 2 rounds to try to get into the middle of the pack flyoff, but over-did my attempt by about 60 points (about 8 places) or so. I even flew and landed the last round inverted. Too tough to figure out how bad to fly to get in the right spot for that award, but then nobody remembers who finished 40th anyway, so it was worth the try.

The kids took a bunch of pictures, so I'll see what they got, and maybe post a few.

Hey Walter, we missed you down there. You're dead on about the picture, it was late Friday afternoon when I got down there and started to practice landings. The gentlemen in the dark blue T-shirt (two to my left) is Gordon Jennings, a bunch of us were using Darwin Barrie's bungee (thanks DB :))

Hope you'll be there next year Walter, even if you're still burnt from Open TD flying by then... Visalia Fall Fest is a nice get-together to attend even if you're not flying in it at all....actually, I think it was you who told me that ;)

I like to thank Joe Nave who is an excellent timer/caller and pilot, and I am super lucky to team with him (he flew out from Hawaii to attend and fly at this year's Fall Festival). We both fly the same freq/channel and we had both entered two classes. I was worried about lack of time if flying in two classes and timing two classes however the pace worked out because of the huge number of flight groups per round..only at Visalia.

Hats off to all of this year's winners. Daryl Perkins beat Joe Wurts in Open by one point, that's close. Daryl also won the Triad trophy (SWC/SF/FF), a very well deserved win. Then there was that amazing Joe Wurts guy, who entered THREE classes and placed 2nd in Open and RES and 1st in 2M -- that's just amazing.

Can't wait to do it again, already looking forward to 2006... some of us were kicking around the idea of going to the SWC event in Feb. Heard that was the next largest TD contest around these parts.

Best regards,
Mehrdad

Placing in the top 20 at Visalia aint too bad either Mehrdad. Good flying man!
Yes congrats to all the winners and to DP for the Triad win, he did it in style by winning all three contests(I think). JW is amazing, very few if any out there could do what he did at a contest the caliber of the big V. Another guy is Mike Reagan flying that AVA, hes deadly with that thing out flying almost all of the open class planes/pilots w/it. Yep, SWC is a fun one as well.

There was 42 Free Flight gliders in the event Saturday afternoon! That was great to see all the kids put them together in the pits. Not one of them was the same.

Well, Jared is a stand up guy and a buddy that I'd have as a caller any day. He was in 18th place with two flights to go and looking to move up with a great 8 minute flight and a 15 pt. landing on Sunday, when I made a timing error by setting the clock to 7 minutes that cost him 1 minute(60 points) on this near perfect flight on Sunday. His final place in the offical standings in open was 28th, but he would have finished in 10th had I not made the error. With 171 competitors in the class, that was an outstanding effort, and I can only imagine how much he wanted that top ten plaque.

With all the preparation, anticipation and expenses that went into this trip for Jared, it would be very easy to justify coming unglued at such a mistake, but he took it all in stride and proved what a gentleman he is(although he dragged me behind his truck all the way back to LA). He came back 45 minutes later and gave me great spotting to help me make my 8 minute task.

I just wanted to say congrats for a great job and I look forward to seeing an official top ten finish for you next year.
