Title says it all. Looking for some cool videos. Anyone know where I can find some so I can see how it’s done.
Sure looks like fun! Too bad they don’t race in California.
TIA!

I know Tom I know! :p
I would LOVE to warbird race! I'd love to find some racing around SoCal but all I've found is some old websites with the AT-6 racing. But I don't know if they are doing it any longer and I'd like to find out if it still exists. It looks as if Tower doesn't carry the Great Planes AT-6 any longer so that may be a reason they don't race any longer but I'm not sure??? That was .46 sized.
I saw some website acclaimed .28 sized AT-6 racing was a hit as well but I cannot find someone to talk to me or email me about it either. Hobby People carries an ARF version and replacement parts to boot! So this would be a great class! Inexpensive plane and motor would make it VERY doable if there were enough people!

Slope Guru gave me a couple leads that I'm going to check out some more. Looks as if they are the Quickie type racing for sure but don't know about single class warbirds....
Yeah I hear there's lots of pylon racing up north. Too bad my career keeps me chained down in O.C.
Some clubs I've seen on websites that race the warbirds are San Gabrial Valley, Prado Dam, and Redlands air fields. I wish someone from one of those clubs could give me some info on it. I might have to start chasing people down somehow??? ;)

There's always electric pylon. The guys in San Diego are pretty good at that sort of stuff.

Yes, you can recover the radio quite easily. Everything else will be toast. But thats what gives us the terrific opportunity to obtain a new plane & find out just what the newest in technology is. ;)

There is a race scheduled for Oct 15 & 16 at Whittier Narrows (fwy 60 and Rosemead Blvd).
Q40 and Q500. These should be the Nelson and Jett stuff, not the "slow" Quickie/AT6 stuff!!
I'm hoping to finish my Excite F5D and fly around some pylons if they'll let me in on their practice.
They should have practice on Fri afternoon also, but I don't know if the pylons will be up yet.
TIA

The 2 fastest planes in the video are both DagoRed innovations from http://www.f3d.de/. There are some pictures there.
Motor in all cases is the dutch MB 40 Profi.

Hi Mark,
Great videos. I forgot about those things.
Ron, I sent you a pm... but there is a ton of Q500 and Q40 racing in the socal area. There is also a T6 series that has 6 or 8 races a year. Check NMPRA.org or the valleyflyers.com to see some schedules. The season is over but there is racing starting January in Phoenix.

Oh, do you only have throttle control with them?
And do they have a fixed rudder?
Splatt
Dec 10, 2005, 10:00 PM
there is no throttle control, just a fuel shut off.
Most pylon racers have rudder, nice for trim changes on knife edge
Those are going 190 MPH's

there is no throttle control........
Why not? What's wrong with throttle control? One more servo too much weight or something? Seems to me not having throttle control would be a safety hazard....

Here is somthing fast, and some pylon buddies are gona start racing them soon.We have radared them at 168 mph.
No slouch for an electric though.
I am designing some that will do aroun 200 mph.Whats nice is you can bump and bash and not crash.LOL Sorry it not nitro.

well, all the better to take in air-fuel mixture my dear.
This engine represents the rules of #422 Q40 AMA rule book racing.
a simple 9 MM venturi and a compact tuned pipe help spin a 7.4x8.0 prop 24,000 RPM's on the ground.
We still have to have a servo for the fuel shut off
