View Full Version : Question USB connector for my TX driving me nuts

Ok. Maybe I'm far too tired to be figuring this out. Maybe I'm stark raving mad. Maybe I'm both.

Wrangled a USB connector for my TX for use with FMS off a friend of mine. Plug the connector into my XP box, and it is automatically detected such that I see:

HID-compliant device
USB Human Interface Device

in the HID section of my device manager. Sadly, and frustratingly so, I don't seem to see any joysticks listed whatsoever when looking for Game Controllers in the control panel.

SO I figure maybe Windows is just stupid and I need the right drivers, etc. So I find a place where I can download PPjoy and PICjoy, reading from the sites that these can be used with the USB connectors. So I follow the instructions on creating a Virtual Joystick, and to my "joy" this creates:

HID-compliant game controller
Parallel Port Joystick 1

in ADDITION to the previously mentioned entities in my Device Manager. This new joystick is clearly not the one in my hands as I don't seem to be able to calibrate it, use it, even get any signal from it (used PPjoyCOM, etc).

So what am I doing wrong here? The PPJoy instructions mention something about USB ports automatically being given COM port numbers (they suggest 3 and/or 4) but as far as I can, this is not true, or at least I can't get them to work.

What am I missing? Other than sleep of course?

This is one frustrated kitty..

Any help would be MUCHLY appreciated!

Kitty.

It's not uncommon for a HID interface not to be listed under the game controllers in control panel. IMO you shouldn't need the PPjoy crap -

If you select JOYSTIC from the FMS control panel, can you then get the calibration screen and see all the raw data coming in ? If not then one possible cause is that the interface is not seing the PPM signal and thus is not functioning correctly. Check the pin out of your transmitter and the wiring of the connector on the interface. One other thing to try is a different USB port. In my experience, sometimes things seem to work better on ports linked to headers on the MOBO rather than the built in USB ports on the backplane, why I have no idea !
