just finished building the Cherub 150 (free plan with AMI July 2003) designed by Vic Smeed. What a joy! Took me back forty years, balsa, tissue and dope!
If it was a pleasure to build, it was an even greater pleasure to fly. Equipped with a 400 motor and gearbox 1300 Nihm and micro servos seemed to fly on quarter throttle for ever! I must confess it was a lot smooter with moden gear. The one I built forty years ago used a single channel MacGregor, Elmic rubber escapement (never sure when the rubber band would run out!). I flew on a warm summer day on the same hill I flew the orignal one from. Got so carried away wondered where my Ausin A35 had gone when I got back to the car park! Memories are made of planes like this!

pictures! We want pictures!

I can't believe how much easier it is these days - plug and play!

I wonder if te folks at Chobham Commons still fly from the hill we used to...last time I saw it was on TV wiith Daleks emerging from it ;)

Ah, I remember it well .. back when it had the infamous clump of trees atop it.

Malc,

Great stuff on the Cherub, one of my favourites of Vic Smeeds. It was my first power FF 30 years ago, I've built others since then and they've all flown off the board.

Let's see some photos!

Pics of the Cherub, the only mods I did were ti use closed loop on the rudder and laminate the fin and rudder outline

Looking good Malc,

My Cherub likes to thermal which is fun. I take up high till it's a speck , then float around hunting out thermals; I've had 30 minute flights on it.

Nice,
how many Cherubs are built from that plan? I have built one too during the winter 2003-2004. In the air summer 2004. I have only one ESC for brushless, my Cherub has a Nippy 080898 in the nose ( gives more than enough power ), and I took it out of the Cherub for testrunning cd-r motors. Now I am working on a motor from a 3,5" floppydrive (ready for winding) and I hope it will give enough power for the Cherub. The insidethings are on the way back into the Cherub and the floppymotor will be tested soon I hope.//K

Well I know there was one built in Argentina as I got an e-mail with photos, and there was another built in England.

Here's mine...

Flew for 45 mins yesterday. Flight terminated by loss of feeling in fingers and other important places! Perfect landing, watched by about thirty interested goats, picked up quickly as they were showing far too much interest for my liking!!
