Hope I am in the right fourm.
I have a great Planes C-50 speed controller with BEC. The specifications say the controller is for 5 to 10 cells with BEC. I am using 11 cells and due to the limited capacity of 1000ma I wish to have a seperate battery pack for the reciever and not utilize the BEC in the controller.
I fly electric gliders and therefore want ample reciever battery power for soaring .
The C-50 has a switch already installed., do I merely leave the controller switch in the off position and plug the speed controller into the Throttle position on the reciever and plug my rceeiver battery into the battery position on the receiver?
I am using a Astro Cobalt 15 motor

In some cases, the switch will also disable the ESC's circuitry.
The best solution is to simply remove connector attached to the red wire on the ESC-RX connection, folding it back and taping/heat shrinking it out of the way. Cutting the wire also works, but is a more "permanent" modification.

Thanks Andy,
Pardon my ignorance but I am not too familiar with electric aircraft. The connector that comes from the ESC to the receiver has 3 wires , white on the outside, black on the oposite outside and the red in the middle. I think that this is a universal connector.
If I understand you correctly , I should remove the center contact ( red wire ) from the connector and heat shrink the contact and wire in case I wish to use the BEC again on a model with less than 10 cells by re-inserting it back into the connector.
The connector - less the red wire - should be inserted into the throttle position of the receiver.
Thanks again

Yup, exactly as you describe.
The ESC only needs the signal (white or orange) and ground (black or brown) to operate, it uses the red wire to provide power from it's BEC regulator to the Rx (and from there, to the servos)..
