Smoke Generators

Has anybody found any good smoke generators that will operate on 12 volts?

I have tried most of the model train units including LGB, but they don't produce enough smoke for out in the open air.

I even tried a 19volt model building unit form Italy, it produced a lot of smoke sitting on my work bench, but again out in the open you couldn't see it.

Check out the May issue of Marine Modelling. It is a British model boat magazine. They have an article on building the HMS Lord Nelson. There is some detailed info on building a smoke generator using theatrical fog as a smoke source. The result, at least according to the photo in the magazine is quite impressive! Also, this material is non-flamable. (Sorry about the double-post, I accidently hit the 'tab' key...........
