Well I have decided after looking, and researching I want a realflight simulator. Although I would get the g3, I was wondering if their was any plans for a G4? Is it in the process? Or anything like that? Just let me know, because I dont want to go buy a g3, then have the g4 come out. Just let me know, thanks!

I seriously doubt that we will see RF G4 for a while. G3 is still very new and they are still very much working on the core of the program... Once it goes into standard update mode and "add-ons" are created for it then you can bet they have started work on the next version...
chihkwen... I think you have not gotten an answer because no one understands the question. Reword it.

Think about it this way. If you don't buy G3, and crash in between now and the release of G4, how much would G3 potentially have been worth to you?
I would normally use this anology with buying computers and making money with them....but in this case we don't really make money flying...most of the time.

Just bought my G4 from Ultimate Hobbies in SoCal for $179 this evening. I played with it for a little bit at the store. The graphics are alot better!
And here's a rebate if you've bought the G3.5 on or before May 1, 2007.

Tough luck if you just bought 3.5 and you dont live in the US or canada. Discrimination I say.

Its still a rip-off, I don't need the transmitter again and I would not pay 80 bucks for the software maybe 50 or so, I mean look at games like Half-Life 2. Its 50 bucks and comes with 5 games. I just think that this is way over priced. So they dangle the carrot of 100 bucks off a 180 dollar game but who the heck is going to keep there receipt to get the 100 bucks off, so in reality most people who bought G3 and G3.5 are going to be paying another 150 for an upgrade that most software companies would have released free to the people as an update.
But with realflight you have to buy everything along the way. I think its great software don't get me wrong but it seems that greed is just pricing people away from it. What do they care they are getting rich off it, and they know people will buy it.
I hope they have some serious competition in the near future.

Don't you hate it when that happens! you buy what seems to be the newest thing and suddenly they come out with a more high-tech version! I have G3.5 and I love it I wish they would make a newer update too. Oh well! patience is a virtue! :)

I nearly bought G3.5 a few months ago but bought a nice kontronik motor instead. I am gled I did and I wont be considering a realflight in the future if this is the way they upgrade.

I have 3.5 & like it & would like to "upgrade" it instead of purchasing another new package & then getting refunded. (which I don't qualify for anyway)
RF are you listening??? I have $$ & I want to upgrade...

Most likely, no. The software is tied to the serial # on the controller. This is their copy protection scheme.
There is always a market for a used sim. Put it on eBay or the FS/W section and I about guarantee you will get a fair price for it considering the condition of the installation cd's and the controller. Not everyone can afford a high-end'ish PC to run the sim well, especially if they are dumping money into R/C hardware. Sometimes you will see G2 for sale and it still gets over $50. How's that for value for OLD software?
BTW, TowerHobbies has G4 in stock (at the moment). I preordered with a $30-off coupon with free shipping, so I scored it for $160.99. Is it cheap? Noway! It's the most expensive software package I ever bought. If you have any appreciation for the kind of hard work that goes into the development of RealFlight to make it the quality sim that it is, you might not complain so much.
Consider this as an even more important point- what kind of money you save out from not crashing your models because of the training experience gained by using the sim. It's subjective and not easily quantified, but it is significant- even if you just casually fly sim models for fun as a game and even more so if you use it as a training tool.

Good points, but its still not a good deal for those who have already spent the 200 bucks for the game, and now have to spend it again for an upgrade. We do not need the controller, it should be able to see that you have the controller and allow you to update the software alone for a decent price. The software alone should be in the price range of the all the first person shooter sims out there. 50 bucks or so for people who have the game is fair to upgrade to new planes and floats, with nice looking water effects. I understand that if you don't have the controller you should have to buy the bundle and it should cost around what it does now, but this price is out of control for people who have already paid once for the game and controller, now they have to do it again?. I think RF will find that they are going to lose a large portion of their customer base at this point unless they make the software at reasonable price.

although its a fun RC sim, its way over priced, at leat they should make it so you dont buy the controller and you can use your old on, dont you guys think.

I'm an owner of Realflight G3.5, and noticed that Realflight G4 just came out. I was suprised to find that they want me to pay $200, ($170 with $30 upgrade rebate), for what I consider a minor upgrade.
I decided that it wasn't worth spending so much money on, so I started looking into Phoenix simulator. Tower hobbies normally stocks it for $160, but have discontinued it in the last month. I can't help but think that this coincides with the release of G4.
I found Phoenix on a UK web site for $143 shipped to the US. I'm going to compare the two, and sell the one I like least. I'm really hoping I like Phoenix better. They seem like they're trying to please their customers more, in my opinion.

i bought the g4. i feel i wasted $200. its a 360 degree photograph in the background and a heli or plane on the photo. they have tried to make it realistic but thats all. TRIED TO. but i wasted $200 :( . The free simulator available on the internet has more simulation than this. I expected much more simulation in a simulator.

I just got my first ever simulator. It's G4.
I've been flying r/c planes since 1984 and have put many in the ground, especially in the early days.
The sim seems pretty realistic, compared to flying the real thing.
I'm hoping to master helis, but that's probably going to take a while.

I got an Amazon gift certificate as a bonus at work and I decided to pick up a copy of G4...fun for me, and great for my kids to practice on.
All in all it's great. Two minor gripes, but maybe it's just me:
1) I think it's too forgiving of hard landings (if my real-live experience with bent and broken landing gear is any judge) and...
2) The dirt/grass etc. seems as smooth as glass so you can land pretty much anywhere with no penalty...the plane never noses over or ground-loops. I'd be very interested to know if other users find the landings to be unrealistically generous?
On the high side, the aerobatics and heli trainers are great, I've already learned a lot of things I didn't know before. It's also graphically beautiful.

Exactly !! looks like its on glass over the grass. Thats because the graphics is very poor. Its just a 360deg. photograph and the aircrafts moving on them . I wish the background too was live then it would be worth the $200 i paid for it.

Hey Sajeev, I'd agree on the Photofields, but the 3d rendered fields are quite nice (and huge). I just wish there were a bit more 'grit' on the ground surfaces.

My copy of G4 showed up in the mail from Tower yesterday. These are my impressions-
Installation: Ok, who at Great Planes (or whomever is more responsible) thought it smart to use FOUR CD-ROMS for the installation?? DUDE!!! Ever hear of this cool new technology called DVD?? I seriously doubt that a PC with enough horsepower to run this application would not be equipped with a DVD optical drive. Rant mode disengaged....
Specs of the PC I installed G4 on:
Dell Inspiron XPS gen2, purchased new in March 05
2.13GHz P4-m / geforce 6800 256MB / 2Gb DDR2 / XP Pro
G3 ran really well with all the eye candy enabled at high resolution, and is also the case with G4, which looks even better. The photo fields look excellent. Aquatic models interact fairly realistically with the water from what I can tell. For helis, so far I've flown the Dominion 3D 90 and the Bergen Gasser. I cannot distinguish between the flight handling from G3/3.5- it's still very good.
The new controller is excellent- much improved over G3's. The adjustment pot and the throttle-hold switch have exchanged positions. The Spektrum tx I use has the throttle-hold switch where the G3's switch is, so maybe I will switch those around on the G4 controller- I like to sim the way I fly and I am still learning autorotation landings. Primarily as a heli flyer, the first thing I did was loosen the throttle gimbal detent lever to smooth the motion out- an easy 5 minute mod. Trims are now digital with sound feedback- very cool. You can select models, fields, model reset, and enable/disable views of the tx and binocular views all from buttons on the controller- no keyboard/pointer input is necessary.
Expansion packs: I have G3-series expansion packs 1, 2, and 3. So far, I only installed #1. There was an error message at the end of the installation, but all the expansion aircraft and fields are available, so I'm not concerned.
I found a local buyer for my G3 with all the G2-series expansion packs, sold for $120. It cost me only $40 to upgrade to G4, so I'm quite satisfied.

I will post them a little later today. I have to ex[port them. I have the 3DHS SHP and a Fliton Extra 330 Mini. They have some small graphical issues, but they fly very similar to the real ones. Which Fliton are you looking for?

D'oh! I just realized that I have been talking to you on KE. Sometimes it takes a little time to do 2+2. I did fix most of the "Major Issues" that were mentioned. Personally, the planes fly fine, so I would not consider the issues "major."
I was going to export them with the fixes, but they are ones that you told me how to do.

I just tested G4 at the LHS, and as a heli pilot, I was VERY impressed. I stood there for about an hour flying around and winced a couple times when I crashed (piro-flips are definitely sim-only for now :) )... it was pretty stinkin' realistic. I don't really care about the eye-candy, although it was pretty... the physics and new tx felt incredible. The heli physics are a big step up from g3, not as much from g3.5. I have no clue what planes feel like in real life, so i can't comment on that. Worth the upgrade, eh, probably not, especially since my current pc can barely run g3... but if I didn't already own a good heli sim, and I was in the market, this would be on the top of my list.
