Capt. Ron: Long Beach?? Where do you run your model boats?

As for the magazine, count me in. I prefer the cover with the wooden launch.

Is the magazine going to be subscription only, or will it be available from hobby shops? How can my local hobby shop get the magazine?

I really like the concept of the magazine! I look forward to checking it out! My advice, do not fall in love with a single subject. After many years of subscribing to Fine Scale Modeler, I cancelled it because I couldn't stand to look at another Bf-109!

Good luck! :)

Captain Ron,

Invoice # 422. I selected "Start subscription from current issue". Will I start from the first issue?

Boy, do we need a decent scale boat magazine. Any thoughts to going monthly? All the luck in the world to you in this venture.

Clive.

Me too. Well, considering the first issue has not even been published yet I think the odds are in our favor that our subscriptions will start with the first issue. :p

I'm guessing that if I subscribe with the online form, I should select "Start subscription from current issue" as the current issue is the first issue that comes out in December. Sound right?

I'm sure it's a stupid question, but you never know.

Thanks,
-t

EDIT:
Oops!! I didn't see the second page of posts. I guess this question has already been asked. (Maybe it's not such a stupid question afterall)

Capt. Ron, if you can produce an American version of the British 'Model Boats' magazine without the gas or electric racing models I will be extremely happy!

I do think as a long term reader of 'Model Boats' that their mix of very simple models and complex models, the fairly regular free plan (oh heaven) and detailed reviews and plan presentations is near perfect. And as a long lasting successful magazine I would suggest it as a good benchmark.

All the best to you and your enterprise Ron.

Graham

Can you assist?

I notice from the web site that you are doing subscriptions to the UK, but are there any distributers planned for the UK, where I can get individual issues?

As I'm new to this wonderful hobby, I have yet to attend any shows. In fact my first is this weekend, but it covers all modelling.

I understand the International Model Boat Show in Warwickshire is the biggest and I will be attending that one in November (see link below) can't wait. :)

It's too bad that you won't be covering all aspects of R/C boating in your new magazine. R/C Boat Modeler has just announced that they are cutting back from 6 to 4 issues a year. To say that subscribers are irate is putting it mildly. There are getting tired of the sugar-coating of junk boats too. If RCBM keeps it up, they'll be out of business in no time.

Graham,
Model Boats is a fine magazine, we plan to publish the best Scale boating magazine.
Thanks for you input
Ron

If I may, one thing to avoid is concentrating on the exact scale model, it is nice to see the top models by the best builders displayed but most of us cannot reach those levels and feel detached from such articles. A good supply of simple, even semi scale models which the average guy can build in a few weeks and sail on his local pond is what does it for me, and would keep me coming back for more.

Oh and plenty of sail :)

Looking forward to your first issue Ron,
Graham

i second Graham's way of thinking. a mag for us regular folk. not that i dont like to see real fine work but to much is a bit dowing.
and yes, lots of sail, work boats, you know the things of every day needs. with out the world would stop.

Ron and I talked last week for a good half-hour on the phone. My wife is going to have kittens when she sees the phone bill! I'm not a scale boat person but am looking forward to seeing what they're going to put out. I won't go into any further details at this time as to what else we did discuss, you'll have to wait a while.

I got mine yesterday, Feb. 1. Nice pictures and some good articles. I hope they have an article on the Victor Model Products "Mary J. Ward" someday.
That "Tubes Forward" column is going to be interesting, huh. Is he writing with tounge in cheek or is he serious? When you put yourself on a high pedestal you have to be very carefull not to wiggle or you'll fall down into the herd (that's h-e-r-d, not h-e-a-r-d). Check the fourth paragraph. If Mr. Merriman is going to write down to us he has to be very careful not to make any boo-boos or he will hear about it from us faceless, unknown members of the herd.

From other observations of his rantings on the internet message boards, he is dead serious.

I haven't seen my free gift either, I sent Ron Abir the following message on 2/14 and received and acknowledgement that he had read it on 2/17.
"I was wondering what happened to the free gift that we were supposed to receive for subscribing early to your magazine. I emailed with a request for update on 2/3/2005 and have not even received an acknowledgment of my email. I would appreciate some sort of status.
Thanks - Jim"
I haven't heard anything else since then though.

The free gift may be pretty modest - new business ventures sometimes suck up a lot more resources (money) than one plans.
Perhaps the gifts will come after some of the advertisers pay up or after the next issue advertising revenue starts flowing in.
I thought the first issue was pretty good - needs a bit more editorial polish, but that will come. Great pics and interesting articles.
