I have a Hacker A30-28S and a CC 35 sitting on the shelf waiting for me to get some servos in my Fliton Jumping Jack - so I was thinking... ;)
My Chow Hound has taken quite a few hard landings, and has definitely seen better days - so I wouldn't be TOO upset if "something" happened to her...what kind of performance do you think I would get with the A30-28S and a 3S TP 2100 in there?
Are the wings going to come off or what???

I just checked and my AUW is 18 ounces on the dot. I am going to run a 9x6 sf to start with...

Alright, I should have listened to Swamp Fox!!! Basically, the gain in power was almost completely offset by the gain in weight. Top-speed seemed to be bit faster, but not by much - I was running a Hacker A20-20L before.
She crashed, and crashed HARD!
I took her vertical for what seemed like forever - then I guess I figured I would see what kind of speed I could get out of her coming straight down. Fast, VERY fast, is the answer to that question. Fast enough to fold the wing and break something else. I don't know what the something else was, I just heard the break and saw the dive from about 80 feet. Needless to say, the front-end just exploded, and she is beyond repair. But back to the cool part...
I don't have a radar gun, and I have no way to accurately guess speed other than I know with the A20-20L she probably hits close to 70 mph - I could almost promise that final dive was over 100 mph...maybe well over 100 mph.
I think I will get another Chow Hound - she was good to me...

Nate,
I am building a laserarts p-51 AUW around 20oz. I have been looking for a power system like the A30. How many watts was it pulling on the 9x6sf prop? I am thinking about a gws 10x8 4-blade or an APC 9x6 4-blade. How much throttle was required to go vertical in your 18 oz ship? I hope your system was ok after the crash. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You, Mark

I have no clue about the watt- or amp-draw, I have no way of measuring either. I think the A30-28S would be a great motor for a 20oz warbird - the only problem I can think of is mounting. The A30 motors are pretty big - unless you are mounting directly to a firewall, you might have to get creative.
Hope this helps a bit.
