What are the accepted servos for the Park Hawk? The manual suggests the Hitec HS-55, JR 241, and Hitec HS-81s among others. How about GWS Naros? Thanks.

In the thread "Flapping Parkhawk" over in Parkfliers, SlowBob wrote:
"Here's the one part that I'm worried about. The tail bolts directly on the rudder servo. A strike to the tail on landing will strip the servo gears. It happened to me on the 5th landing, and I understand eflyer has had that experience too. Instructions call for an HS55 or similar there, but supplements recommend using an HS81 with metal gears."
I don't know about the construction of the JR 241 or the GWS Naros, but it sure sounds like metal gears are in order!

Thanks Jerry, I just got an email from Brian Chan and he broke the 261 on the rudder which is stronger than the 241. I am going to look into HS-81MG or HS-85MGs. I wonder if a servo-saver can be installed to reduce shock loads on both elevator and rudder servos...

I had never heard of Servo Savers, so that opened up an exciting new world of possibilities ... and once again the RCgroups search engine came through!
Does anyone know how much they weigh? - they look pretty light. It sounds like they would work like a shear pin, and could do a lot to cushion the servo gears from shock loads. Since the ParkHawk seems prone to exciting landings, it seems like these babies would be very cheap insurance ... even with metal gears.

Jerry,
I bought the HS-81MG servos tonight along with a couple of those servo savers that you have shown. They were in the RC car section of LHS. I will post some installation pictures later. Thanks.

Here is a picture of the servos as installed in the Park Hawk. I ended up using the HS-81MG for the rudder and the GWS Naro Pro BB for the elevator. You can see the servo saver in the picture. They are made by Kimbrough Products and cost $4 at the LHS. The ones I bought were for the Hitec and would not fit the GWS servo. I will fit one later as the tail is quite exposed. I set the servo travel for 140%. The Park Hawk turns on a dime.
