There is a lot of talk on here about WWII planes, but how many of you guys are also flying WWI biplanes and the like?
If you are, please post some pictures and what you guys are running in them.
I love my Alfa's, but I am interested in getting something a bit different...maybe something from Sig or Kavan.

I fly the Kavan Albatros and love it. Flies great and looks really good. Right now, I fly it with a GWS 350 and plan to fit a new one with one of the new Himax mini outrunners. The Sigs are fun as well, the Jenny in particular looks and flies great too and are quite affordable. Alot of the guys at the field give me a ribbing for over reinforcing my planes with carbon fiber rod and sheet but my D VII is still flying great despite a number of rough landings. I suggest you reinfrce the SIG landing gear with some carbon fiber rods.

What about brushless motor/esc combos for the Sig and Kavan planes? I have enough high-speed planes, the whole reason I am looking into WWI planes is for something slow and relaxing...and I don't want a dang Cessna!
Would my Axi 2208/34 be a good scale-flight powerplant?

I really can't comment on that set up you mentioned, it might work. Currently all my biplanes fly with GWS 350's using Castle Creations pixie 10's and 2 cell lipos. I'm considering the move to brushless for a couple of reasons. One, I'd like to power through the wind and reduce the choppy flight and two, these new mini outrunners from Himax might not be too powerfull for these airframes. All the local shops in town discouraged me earlier this year from going brushless as they all seemed to think it would rip the wings off.

Nate,

I think most of the WWI enthusiasts tend to hang out in the Scale forum;

Many of the smaller sizes can be found in Parkflyers;

I hope this helps!

I remember once when there was a war in history other than WWII. I know what you're thinking, but believe me, it's true!

Aaanywho..

I bet one day, just maybe, there will be alot of 4ch mass produced foam parkfliers from WWI (or the many other wars) on the cheap (GWS?). Until then, you're going to have to settle for immaculately designed but often surprisingly expensive balsa models. Where are the prices for the K&W models? I'm frightened. They're probably very expensive, but I want one because their Fokker E.III is so perfect...

The craze will probably hit in about 9 years, when we reach the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI. Weird to think of it like that, as I remember seeing WWI aces in the news and in the papers...
