Just completed strippng my Aquila wings and sheeting the bottom of the wing. My understanding of this mod (correct me if I am wrong) is that it will increase my speed envelope as well as offer better overall performance. A qusetion i do have is, will this allow me a stronger winch launch due to the strengthening of the wing . iam not going for a full zoom launch by the way. just want to know if i can take up the line a bit faster . I will post pictures of my completed ship in the next week or so.

The bottom sheeting will stiffen the wing from bending and torque load point of view. However, the wing will not stengthen from bending load capability. That is because the fails in the top spar cap in compression. The bottom spar cap is in tension and the top spar cap is in compression. The 2.4 times spruce is stronger in tension than spruce in compression. If you want to strengthen the wing in bending you must reinforce the top cap on the root end panel. Then add 1/8 x 3/8 spruce to the top cap compression strength before the bottom cap is equal to maximum tension strength. You don't have change the tip panels for spars, the are over built for bending.

You might gain a little bending strength by adding some shear webbing on the spar. A lighter alternative would be to wrap dacron thread around the spar. You need to keep the top spar cap in place to develop maximum bending strength. Once it moves and breaks the bond to the shear webbing, you're done.
