Subject: my dual counter rotate

Jim,

Beautiful Page! Kind of surfed into it this weekend and have been back (3)
times since! I have attached a snappy of my counter rotating drive unit. (2)
AP29's turning a 10x6 and 10x5. Runs @ 3:1 on 8 cells. Makes a real cool
sound, kinda like a router! I have no plans to market it, got the idea from
Tom Hunt @ KRC.

Have fun,

Subject: [EFLT] Very Small Servos
This message from Tim McDonough &lt;tpm(at)inw.net&gt; distributed by EFLIGHT!
I received some information today on very small servos and receivers for
RC use. You have to need these badly to pay the price but if you want to
do really small RC check this out...

Nanomite R/C System

Receiver:
1.3&quot; x .7&quot; x .4&quot;
7 grams total weight for 2 channels
$200.00 US

Servos:
.9&quot; x .7&quot; x .4&quot;
6 grams total weight
.25 seconds to limit of travel
$200.00 US each

Battery Packs:
30 mAh...
2.4 volt $8.00
3.6 volt $12.00
4.8 volt $16.00
6.0 volt $20.00
7.2 volt $24.00

I'm not affiliated with Mr. Duddles in any way. From time to time
someone on the list will ask about small RC gear suitable for indoor
flight and this is certainly small for a fully proportional system.

<p>Paul Bradley has been kind enough to keep me &quot;in the loop&quot; on some of his
correspondence with modelers who have questions about No-Cal electrics. This is Paul's
response to a&nbsp;recent question from a modeler: </p>

Hi Paul,

I hope my suggestions will be of some help to you. There are many
variables to consider when starting an electric free flight project. I
would agree with your thoughts on using only one &quot;live&quot; motor for a
multi-engine trimotor project. The typical size for an electric profile
free flight is 16&quot; to 20&quot; wing span. The 16&quot; span is usually more
suitable for flying in limited areas such as school yards or areas
around your house. Probably the most important thing to consider is
keeping the flying weight as low as practical. This means selecting
light building materials and power sources.

For the 16&quot; models, the motors supplied by Kenway are very nice. Their
KR1-D works well on two 50mah batteries (nicad). The batteries and
motors are available from the following mail order address:

Kenway Micro Flight
P.O. Box 889
Hackettstown, N.J. 07840

1-800-541-7471

If you decide to build a larger model, motors from HiLine are a good
choice. Their address is as follows:

HiLine
P.O. Box 11558
Goldsboro, NC 27532

Both suppliers offer catalogs. The price I believe is $1.00. They are
good sources for the motors and batteries that are generally used for
electric free flights. You will find the small nicad batteries the best
source. Used Polaroid batteries are a bit clumsy to use. The small nicads
can be quickly charged and cycled over and over again. In fact, the
battery charge time is what determines the flight duration. Normally a
charge cycle does not last for more than one minute.

The beauty of profile models, is that almost any subject can be
selected. To get started, just cut the main parts (fuselage/fin,
stabilizer, and wing) from light 1/20 or 1/16&quot; balsa. Draw any markings
you want to use with a fine felt tipped pen, and use colored markers for
the main color. There is no weight build up with this type of marking.
The motor can be simply glued on the nose of the model. The batteries
are then attached with glue at a point that allows the model to balance
at a point about 30% behind the wing leading edge at the root. This may
vary depending on the wing plan form, but is a good starting point.

After you get some experience with an all sheet model, you can try for a
lighter version. The best way to do this is to retain the sheet
fuselage/fin and build up the wing and stabilizer. The built up surfaces
are covered with tissue paper. Markings can still be added using fine
tipped felt pens and colored markers. The only difference would be to
mark and color the tissue paper before applying it to the model.

As you can see, there a number of &quot;points&quot; to this great hobby. I would
suggest you simply dig in, start a project and then send your questions.
I would love to hear about your successes.

<p>Herm inio Perez sent me these photos of Bob Benton with his Giant Lazy Bee: </p>

Subject: LBee pictures

Hi, these are the promised pictures of the giant Lazy Bee, the wingspan
is about 80x36&quot;, weight is about 8lbs and it flies with a 7:1 geared
9.6v Dewalt on two 10 cell packs of 1700scrc (parallel, motor sees 10
cells with double capacity). For scale the prop on the picture is 18&quot;.

The LB is very agile and takes off in a heartbeat, it requires very
little control throw to do fool stunts that you cannot get in trouble
with..lots of fun but a bit too large to transport.

Its all built of laminated 1/16 strips of balsa wood with yellow
carpenters glue, the wing alone contains about 1500 pieces. Ribs are
built up and also made of laminated balsa strips. Covering is
polyester dress liner with two coats of clear dope, very tight and
lightweight. Its amazing how the wing echoes when you talk near it.
