I have a Sterling 63 Foot Motor Yacht that I bought years ago in built but rough condition then I hollowed out all of the leadloy light fittings and installed gow bulbs. I then hooked up three micro switches and cams to turn on running, deck, and cabin lights via a single servo and a another servo/micro switch to beep a small electric horn. I made deck furniture and a mini portable TV with gow bulb and piece of 35mm slide to simulate color tv. I carved bikini girls, a skipper, and grandpa and grandma figures to sit in the chairs and watch tv. The boat came with a Leisure Ferrite 20 motor and two 8-cell sub C packs and an AF 211 esc. I hooked a heavy duty toggle switch to a servo to reverse polarity and get forward and reverse. The boat maneuvers well for docking and will go from a crawl to half out of the water ( 40mph scale speed). I have an unbuilt kit with fittings set that I bought long ago but will peddle for lots of money on Ebay. I also have a Sterling Century Sea Maid nearly finished, may get busy with it after I get some more electric and IC planes built and flying. Will add some pics if there is an interest

If you still have the Sterling kits, I may be interested in them. E-mail me at fgroza@msn.com.

Thanks

The scarce unbuilt Sterling 63 Foot Motor Yacht kits with fittings sets have been going for over $550 on Ebay. Not sure I want to sell kit yet but may never build it with all of my electric and IC plane projects. BTW, I understand that Dumas is coming out with some cabin cruiser models. I urged them to do this some time ago.

I have always been fascinated with old wooden runabouts and cabin cruisers probably because I remember them at Lakes in Wisconsin when I was a child.

Estes/Cox has sold the Sterling line of boat kits to Hobby Lobby. Perhaps they will do a re-release of the kits. I lost a 63' boat that I built in a divorce. I paid around $50 for the kit back in the '80's.

Thanks
Frank

Wow, I hope you got to keep the Ferrari. I'm gonna take the little woman out to dinner. BTW, I saw an auction for a 1923 book on model boat building for boys. I remember these books from my youth, they were fascinating and included plans for building your own electric motor, simple runabouts, cabin cruisers and sail boats. Just enter "model boat" in the Ebay search engine.

Good luck!

E-Challenged,
I had to sell off all of my "toys" to help cover the costs of my divorce. IF I owned a Ferrari, I would have lost that also!
