How to implement the positive and negative (Futaba and JR) PPM shift detect using a PIC microcontroller?

Martin SJ recently released a code for actuators with auto shift detection.
Have a look here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383299 .
I know its not for servos, but its a start.
