This is my first large electric conversion. Using a CG Tiger 60 ARF. Converted to a taildragger. I will be renaming it "Tiger E" of course- Setp as follows- AXI 4130/16 CC Pheonix 80 esc, 5-cell reciever battery pack (no UBEC), and the "power" is coming from 4 TANIC 3 cell 2500mah packs, wired for a 6s 5000mah setup.

Nice Tiger.... One of Richard's favorites. They make a speed 400 version as well. Very nice.

Nice Tiger and Super Nice power setup!.. I have the exact same motor swinging a 15x8 on 6S(22.2 volts) and 5000Mah.. It flies my 12 Lb UAV with athourity... Best part is it only pulls 35 AMPS at 7K RPM.. I easily get 2x 10minute flights... these are usally throttled back so I can cruize around and take pics and shoot video...

As usual, I spent more time with the color scheme than actual assembly of this ARF!!! I didn't like the white stripes- so "80's" Nedd to update it a little....so I went and got some yellow Ultracoat and black pinstripe, and got crazy with it. By the way, after this, I'll never use monokote again!! This stuff was applied over itself with a covering iron, and no air bubbles!!! I would NEVER have tried that with monokote!! I need to go to the toy store to pick up the pilot- If you look at the tail that may give you a hint of who it is!!! (A little superhero trivia for ya!!!) More pictures to come as I finally get to installing the power system!!

davecee, you got it!!! Luckily Toys-R-Us was open today, so I was able to hire a pilot. Oh, and the 80's called....they said they wanted their airplane back....This is what it looks like out of the box...........

Brad, beautiful job! Were you able to get the plane to balance at the CG with Lipos? I have a Tiger 2 conversion in this column and would like to use the 2 3S 4160 Appogee packs but not sure if it will balance. Did you have to install the batts under the hatch? My lipos are quite long not in abrick fashion like yours so I'm thinking I may not be able to get them as far forward as needed.
Good luck with your plane . Let us know how it flies. John Z.

Finally got to fly the Tiger 60 after 3 months hanging on my ceiling. Flys good, fast, doesn't like to slow down. I need to loose some weight. This ARF is built like a tank. AUW is around 9 lbs!!! Gonna ditch the separate RX batt for a BEC, maybe some CF landing gear- The aluminum gear weighs in at 16 oz as is.

sweet !
cool plane, nice pics.
Congratulations and continued good luck . Been using ubecs for awhile with zero problems. 3 other friends fly conversions with becs ,,,no issues to date.
take care~

I have decided to go with the BEC. This plane needs a serious diet!! I just saved almost 1 lb of weight, by losing the RX battery and going with a BEC (5 ozs saved) and I ditched the heavy main gear, and went back to the original wing mounted trike setup (saved 9.5 oz) -but still going taildragger as I bent them forward 2" from the standard position- I also bent my own gear longer to maintain prop clearance. I think I have a great power setup for "scale" flying a 10 lb model- I think my AUW on this was actually closer to 10 lbs!!! I will recheck it after the mods. I wouldn't use a Tiger 60 ARf again as an electric conversion- to Carl Goldberg's credit- this thing is built like a tank!! The fuse is made of ALL 1/8" plywood!!! This thing would probably survive the vibration of a gasoline engine easy. The wings are heavy and very strong for the landing gear blocks !!!

Well I finally had 3 wonderful flights now that the AUW is 8.5 pounds she's a keeper!! Lots of fun!!! I have unlimited vertical power now, can take off in about 30 feet, then straight up until I can hardly see it, power off and spin it back down, slows down great for landing, I could hardly get it to stall. Very pleased, but wish the airframe was a bit lighter...would be even more fun. My favorite move is to make extra large 150 foot loops, enough power here to pull it all the way through and keep it perfectly round. Can't wait to fly it again!!!
