Anyone ever owned or driven one? Are they as badass as they appear to be?
Thinking about getting one to add to the herd.

All i've heard says they're crap. Apparantly the quoted 5bhp is very over
enthusiastic, and they're weak as hell. Check out www.slapmafro.com and
watch some of their videos, in one of the later ones they have a Genesis and
it breaks on the first jump, which is very small. Also, the radio gear they
come with as standard is crappy.
Buuuuuuuuut i'm sure they're are some people out there that have one and
like it, i've just never heard of one :D

Dan,
I started googling for reviews on the Genesis after I posted here and that
seems to be the central theme.................a truck that eats itself.
Hmmm, maybe I'll just grab another Savage and set it up for road racing and
insane top speeds...............so I can leave my off-road setup alone.

Savage is the king :) Although, my mate has a Revo and thats very good,
very tough as well, although i just don't like the feel of a smaller engine.
Maybe look at the Team Associated Monster GT/TTR MTA4 (its the same thing),
as thats a very capable truck.
A road going Savage would need Proline 40 series wheels, and Proline Road
Rage tyres :) Also, Nova shock towers, and the 8 standard shocks replaced
with 4 rear 1/8th buggy shocks (a mod which you can see here
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5983425492). Check out
the forum on www.maxbashing.com or www.savage-central.com for more info on
the mod itself.

Well clearly 3 spd tranny and roto K4.6 engine would be the weapons of

That's kinda what I was thinking, but with the Savage SS kit (I love the
S-25 motor). 3-speed tranny and the tallest gear ratio they offer should
see speeds close to 50 mph. Proline RoadRage tires and slammed suspension
should keep her on all fours as well.
Me and my wife have an agreement, and that is that any money I make from
side jobs is "free" money for my hobby, seeing as how it's not part of my
salary and just extra cash. Soooooooo, I landed a biggie this PM and am
already looking to spend the extra money. I had thought of grabbing another
Savage 25 RTR for the wife to piddle around with (she's always wanted a pink
1:1 truck) but I don't know how long her interest would last.
Other possibilities are HPI MT2 18SS, OFNA Twin Titan, Thunder Tiger EK4-S2
or a Truckzilla Twin conversion for my current Savage.

Not at all keen on a Revo? They look allright, but the only thing that was
stopping me was the fact that it comes with a piddly little .15 still! (and
the fact that it would be bloody hard to get one to wheelie on command :)

EK4 is a bit of a reliability nightmare, and that big .70 isn't actually
that powerful. As far as twin Savages go, i personally like the look of the
New Era twin kit as opposed to the hot bodies one, as i always find hot
bodies stuff a bit poorly made. No experience of the titan twin, and the
MT2 isn't a truck, so thats no fun :-D For on road suspension, low and soft
is the way, HPi red springs with no clips in, along with the 40 series road
rages, and has to be a Mustang shell ;-)

The TRX 2.5 is actually an awfully good engine, although it sounds a bit
wieny, and the EZ start is so easy to use its scary. Also, Revo can take a
lot of hammer before it busts. They can be made to wheelie, if they're very
well tuned and the suspension is set up for it, but you're right in that its
not too easy :)

Doc from your other reply it seems you want a fast street MT. Have you
thought at all about the XTM Mammoth. Its relatively cheap and will go
over 50 stock. Has a much lower CG than savage. It would be different
from savage too you know design wise. The .247 is a very nice engine, I
have one. It has a very powerful steering servo 175oz-in. 8 threaded
aluminum shocks Just throwing another MT out there to think about.

I'm done with overheating, puny little .15's. I've heard and read that the
TRX2.5 has very bad overheating issues. Don't manufacturers realize there
is only so much power you can squeeze out of a .15 before the increased
compression and RPM causes heat issues? If they put a .18 or a .21 in there
I'd buy one tomorrow.

I had considered the XTM Mammoth but have read some pretty bad reviews on it
per way of reliability. Have you had any significant problems with yours?

Someone i know used to have one, the Mammoth that is, then chopped it in for
an MGT, it was actually very reliable, but we always got the impression it
was about the break, it felt a bit fragile. Also, this one had the Force
..25 engine, and that was a bit rubbish, but then, they are quite cheap for
what they are.

Agreed, I'm allways surprised at how well those 2.5's perform. I'm actually
waiting for the 15 in the Maxx to crap itself (and I'm not helping its cause
by kaning it so much (on purpose, shhhhh!)) so I can get a 2.5 replacement
for it. They are so cheap now its not funny. I was planning to stick a
Wasp or Picco or something in there, but I got the Savage bug :)

Thats the exact reason why I didn't want one, I was real keen when Traxxas
announced the Revo, but when I saw it still used the 15 I was instantly
turned off.
Likewise, if it had a platform for a .21 or bigger I probably would have
gotten a Revo over the Savage...
I'm kinda glad I went this way anyway, cause now I have a truck thats
bigger, has a MUCH bigger engine *and* has a 3 speed!

I've got my eye on a T-Maxx rolling chassis on Ebay ;) Plan to stick a nice
2.5r in it as a random project, for laughs :D

hehe, they are a really great truck, and I would still have mine as the main
truck, its just that I really wanted more power (much MUCH more power).
I've heard horror stories about people converting to .21 size engines (at
similar costs to buying a full truck kit!) and then twisting the drive
shafts etc. and people putting the .18's etc but then them being hard to
tune and having air leaks etc.
My T-maxx has been great over the years (I got one straight away when they
first came out), only thing I have broken on it was a lower a-arm and both
shocks on one corner due to a metal hook sticking out of the ground!! (Hook
hit the a-arm exactly where the shocks mount and took the mount out :) 2
new shock shafts and a new a-arm (total of $15) and its fixed. It has never
EVER caused me any grief and has ALLWAYS run whenever I've wanted it to.
The strength of the things is amazing and I hope this new Savage can keep up
in that area :)
Cheers Dre

No it won't. If it starts, and that's a big if, it'll break within 30
seconds anyway. So even if that *cough**giggle* '5hp' engine does give you
a lead in any kind of race, we'll soon fly on by. Still, it was different
to the usual attempt at trolling, you didn't type it all in caps for a
start, so I'll give you 2/10 instead of the usual 0.
HTH :-)
