I am trying to program a full house V tail Tragi using my Futaba 8U Super radio and am having my struggles. I have a Hitec Super Slim 8 channel receiver and Don Edberg's programming guide. Any of you 8U experts out there been there, done that? I want aileron/rudder mixing on a switch, flaps on throttle stick with elevator compensation, and flaps following ailerons during normal flight. Switch activated camber control for launch, thermal and run would be nice also. I could use some help. Links or specific suggestions appreciated. Dennis Brackett

I only have a couple minutes to write this post so I'll give you a quick rundown. I can get into specifics as needed on Monday when I get back from a contest,

You want to program the model as a type "glider two flap".

You want to use the Butterfly mix for flaps on the throttle stick with elevator compensation.

You want the "Start" mix and "Speed" mixes for presets on all four wing servos and the elevator servo. These mixes will be operated by the three position Start/Speed switch (probably switch E)

There is an "aileron to flap" mix function. Just activate it and set the direction and percentage of movement for the flap servos. You can also select a switch to turn the mix on and off if desired.

You will use a generic PMIX for the aileron to rudder mix. Just select channel 1 as master and channel 4 as slave. You can select a switch to activate the mix also if you don't want it on all the time.

The above is true for the Futaba 8U non super radio. I don't have the Super version but it should be the same with maybe some added features.

For the above setup you would activate the three position switch (start position) to give launch camber and elevator preset if needed for launch. For the zoom you would throw the three position switch full forward for speed camber and also speed elevator position. After the zoom you would toggle the three position switch between the forward "speed" position and the middle position which can be set up for thermal camber and elevator position.

The butterfly mix must be on for the flaps to work for landing. The A switch turns this mix on and off. I always leave this switch on so that I don't forget to turn the flaps on for landing. An alarm will sound when you turn the transmitter on with the A switch on. You must cycle the A switch off and back on to silence the alarm.

On the 8U non super you would want to deactivate the "flap trim" function so that the channel six knob does not move the flaps. This is done by actually turning on the "flap trim" mix and setting the percentage within the mix to zero percent. I'm not sure if the 8U super is the same in this respect.

Once again, you may find some differences between the 8U super and the above which applies to the non Super version of the transmitter.

Thanks for the prompt replies. (Especially Phil) I don't know how you find time to win contests, build models and hammer out all the posts I see with your name on them. Between your vacuum bagging CDs, and sharing bargain 3.5 oz. Unicarbon, my modeling is definitely moving up a notch, Thanks for sharing all your expertise with all the forums. I spent three hours working through Don Edberg's book following your suggestions and I have the Tragi pretty well set up, at least for an initial flight.
