Hi,

I've acquired a new radio to use with my JK Thermic (a JR 3810) and now that I can use the flaps, I have a few set up questions for all the fliers that have a Thermic with flaps.

*What differential do you use on the ailerons? I have in the past used about 50% down to 100% up. (a question for all Thermic fliers ;) )

*What percentage do you mix your rudder to the ailerons? Again I have gone for 50% rudder to aileron mix in the past. (again a question for all Thermic fliers)

*And (and I know that this is a personal taste for flying style) how much elevator mix for crow braking. I've been told this generally is sorted out when you have a bit of an experiment 3 mistakes high ;)

*Lastly how much percentage up aileron to down flap in crow braking?

Thanks for your help in this matter,
Glen

I don't have flaps on my Thermik, so I can't address your last 2 questions. I use the same aileron differential you suggested (100% up and 50% down). I don't use any mix for rudder/aileron, I like to keep them separate. When entering a turn, the aileron and rudder go the same way; but while circling the aileron needs to be adjusted to keep the bank angle I want, and is generally a tad in the opposite direction of the rudder.

Hi,

Thanks Tracy. Anybody got any suggestions for the last 2 questions. I know somebody must, .... I've heard several people have added flaps to the Thermic :D. If not, it's ok. I'll work it out myself when I fly next ;)

Cheers,
Glen

Aileron Diff: This is more of a personal preferrence, I like as much up as I can get and very little down. (By very little I mean almost no down at all, around 1/8 inch.)

Rudder Ail Mix: I don't mix, I prefer to add rudder as needed and or opposite rudder to flatten turns.

Elevator mix for crow: This will be different from plane to plane but I found out quick it doesn't take much to make a huge difference so start out at the bottom and work your way up.

Aileron and flap percentage: Flaps 90 degrees down, ailerons as much up as I can get without binding, since this is on the throttle lever you can use more or less as needed.

P.S. You will love the Crow mix, I fly at a short field and my thermic was so fast on landing it was almost scary, with crow I can spot land with no problems. Crow is also great for getting down fast, I just kick in full crow and point the nose down she comes down great without overspeeding.

I'm considering a JKThermic, set up with full-span "flaperons" that won't really be used for flaps...just camber and full-span ailerons. I've used this on many DLG's and lower aspect ratio slope ships, but I have some doubts about adverse yaw on a higher aspect ratio wing like the Thermic's.

Anyone have experience with such a setup on this plane?
